What is Involved? Singing for the Brain ® provides a structured group session for people with dementia. It's designed around the principles of music therapy and singing and offers everyone a chance to socialise and have fun in a safe and supported environment. We're looking for another Singing for the Brain Group Leader to join our team and help to lead our busy Charvil Singing for the Brain group which meets on a weekly basis on Thursday mornings between 10:30am and 12 noon. It meets at Charvil Village Hall in Park Lane, Charvil, RG10 9TR. You'd be needed from around 10:00 until about 12:30pm (as volunteers also help to set up and then clear away the venue) and would be part of a rota of other Singing for the Brain Group Leaders so might only need to volunteer every 2 or 3 weeks. As the Singing for the Brain Group Leader volunteer your duties will include: - Leading the singing and movement elements of the service - Putting together a musical programme that meets the needs and tastes of the people who attend - Making sure the programme is well-run, flexible and responsive to the group - Welcoming and chatting with people with dementia and their carers - Making and handing out teas/coffees, collecting in and washing up - Tidying up the room after the session and putting away the tables and chairs - Helping the Group leader ensure the session goes well The role will suit you if you... - Have experience of, and an interest in, music and movement - Have sufficient musical knowledge to be able to use and lead a range of songs and musical activities - Are able to sing competently - Understand the potential emotional and psychological benefits of singing - Have good verbal communication skills - Have some understanding of dementia and its impact on people or if not, are willing to learn - Are willing to help out where needed in the group and help ensure those who attend have an enjoyable time - Are prepared to undergo the Society's training requirements for this role The impact you will make...
