An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated nurse leader for the post of Ward Manager on Ward 2 Singleton Hospital. Ward 2 is a busy acute surgical ward which specialises in gynaecology, ophthalmic, breast, orthopaedic, ENT and general surgery. The post holder will also be responsible for the Theatre Admission Unit which is adjacent to Ward 2. The Theatre Admission Unit has been recently been refurbished and is designed so patients are able to be discharged on the same day as their surgery, enabling the unit to have a high patient throughput during the week. The successful candidate should be dynamic, innovative and have strong leadership skills, and would have twenty four hour responsibilities for ensuring that a consistently high standard of care is provided to the patients on the ward. The post holder will be required to work Monday to Friday with flexibility to work occasional weekend if required. We are looking for a candidate who is be approachable, compassionate and hardworking and have the ability to use their own initiative whilst also having the ability to work under pressure. They must also have good organisational skills and have the ability to mentor and support junior staff and be able to encourage the career development of all levels of staff within the ward. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, together with a pleasant, confident and empathic manner when dealing with patients, families and all members of the multi-disciplinary teams. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
