Effective communications are of key importance to the Council. Establishing and maintaining good public and media relations and providing accessible information are crucial in helping to make the Council's work open and relevant to our community, and in promoting the interests of the islands.

This is an opportunity to join our communications team. The role involves maintaining good media relations, creating content for the Council's social media channels and website, involvement in campaigns, and creating effective communications plans for a variety of projects. You will support chief officials and elected members, deal with enquiries from the media and work with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

You should be educated to degree level, preferably in a communications or PR related subject or, where the essential qualification is not held, you must have a minimum of 3 years' experience is required.

You will have excellent written, verbal and presentational skills, be used to working under pressure, and be proficient in the use of a number of relevant computer packages. Experience within local government would be an advantage. We will expect you to be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the issues facing local government in Orkney and our wider community.

We will consider applications from candidates interested in joining our communications team as a press officer on either a full-time or a part-time basis.
