Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Farnham, Surrey

£45-60,000 + Bonus, Relocation, Pension

·Demonstrable knowledge of design life cycles from concept through to production including DFM, liaising with manufacturing suppliers on cost down activities and processes, GD&T, DFMEAs and reliability in design.

·This company is a growing automotive engineering business that is involved with the design and development of sophisticated electric vehicle components and systems.

·Knowledge of high reliability designs of components - automotive, aerospace, industrial pumps, valves, power steering, gearboxes or potentially white goods

Your Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in the team you will be involved in the mechanical design and development of new products and systems. This will include electromechanical components, enclosures and electronic packaging but could extend to any aspect of design.

The company's systems include high reliability and safety critical motors, motor controllers and drive systems and all associated packaging and enclosures.

Your Background: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:

·A good degree or higher in a relevant subject (e.g. mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or similar)

·Experience of mechanical design of high reliability electromechanical components / products perhaps gained within automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, white goods, industrial pumps, valves or other relevant markets

·Excellent problem-solving skills using first principles with the ability to take products from concept to production (including feasibility, component evaluation, DFM and cost down activities)

·Component design skills with knowledge of aluminium casting, complex potting, steel stamping, sealing and injection moulding

·Use of high-end 3D solid modelling CAD tools (e.g. Solidworks, Inventor, Creo, NX etc)

·Knowledge of FEA and CAE tools along with the ability to perform hand calculations

·Knowledge of DFM, GD&T and also DFMEA

·Knowledge of heat management / thermal analysis and ideally EMC would be great

·Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Others: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

·Chartered Engineer or working towards it in a relevant association is desirable

·Previous design experience based on ISO26262 is desirable

·Ability to travel on occasions (sometimes internationally)
