Governance and Risk Manager

The Practice is one of the UK's leading providers of primary care services and delivers specialist clinical services. They also operate a growing network of surgeries, delivering an effective infrastructure which allows their GPs to concentrate on their core skill of practicing medicine.

Position: Governance and Risk Manager
Location: London and Amersham
Job type: Part Time, Permanent
Salary: Salary is £50k FTE.

About the role:

This national role will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the highest standards of governance and risk management across all Centene UK operations.


- Support the development and provision of good corporate governance across divisions and across the Group.
- Monitor the governance cycle, including the identification of interdependencies and for the avoidance of duplication.
- Co-ordinate and support the production of cyclical, routine, periodic and ad hoc analysis, information, data and high-quality reports for Assurance Groups and operational meetings, plus management, frontline staff and others as required.
- Support the development of reporting templates and requirements as the Company changes and grows.
- Support the Governance and Quality Assurance teams in reporting and assurance requirements.
- Monitor progress against targets and plans as set out by the Assurance Groups.
- Ensure matters of governance are documented and recorded appropriately for statutory, compliance or good operational governance requirements.
- Ensure the Company has arrangements in place for the effective initiation, consultation, approval and continuous review of corporate policies and procedures and to ensure compliance with this process.
- Review and improve the company Governance Policy and reporting requirements.
- Develop a 'governance manual', providing advice and information regarding the work of the Governance Team.
- Manage the Conflicts of Interest Register.
- Manage the Corporate Governance Calendar.
- Contribute to the capture, management, learning from and promotion of effective risk management processes.
- Ensure there is effective implementation of Risk Registers including systematic review, assessment, monitoring and escalation of the risks.
- Manage the Centene UK corporate risk register (strategic and operational risks).
- Support operational leaders and managers to improve the quality of risk reporting, including timely identification, management and mitigation of risk.
- Support the development of the Corporate Enterprise Risk Management submission.
- Line manage, support and develop direct report's.
- Work with business units and teams as necessary, establishing best-practices to be leveraged elsewhere in the group and providing governance and risk training, as required.
- Be responsible for a high standard of work supporting the delivery of deadlines on time and to agreed quality standards.
- Create and maintain a professional and constructive work environment, providing leadership across complex situations and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels, across all divisions and externally.

About you:

- Education / qualifications (academic, professional, vocational) Master / Higher degree or equivalent.
- Experience & knowledge Previous experience of corporate governance at management level.
- Experience of broad risk management techniques in various healthcare environments.
- Evidence of building effective multidisciplinary teams and networks.
- Evidence of effective self-management.
- Proven ability to motivate and develop staff to improve identification, reporting, management, mitigation and treatment of risks.
- Experience of staff management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to use them in a participative working environment.
- Effective negotiating, diplomacy and influencing skills.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse workforce at all levels of the organisation.
- Excellent organisational skills.
