Job Purpose

To prepare or assist in the UK corporate tax and VAT compliance cycle for a number of companies, including group reporting, statutory accounts, taxation returns & computations and instalment payments.

Primary Job Responsibilities and Measurement

Undertake or assist in the preparation of a number of UK based corporate tax returns and associated matters, including but not limited to group payments, group relief matrix, claims and elections. Obtain review from European Tax Manager.

Prepare and/or assist the tax calculations to be included in the group reporting packs on a semi-annual basis for UK companies. Obtain review from European Tax Manager. Assist the European Tax Manager in dealing with matters as they arise regarding group reporting Packs throughout the year covering UK entities.

Prepare and/assist in the preparation of monthly / quarterly UK VAT returns including submission through new making tax digital software package.

Assist in maintaining a good working relationship with the UK tax authorities through written and verbal correspondence and at the annual CRM meeting.

Prepare or assist in the preparation of tax information for the production of UK statutory accounts and submit to Finance Team, after review by European Tax Manager, for incorporation into the statutory accounts. Review statutory accounts for consistency and accuracy prior to sign off.

To keep up to date with latest legislative developments.

Take responsibility for ensuring that high standards of filing and document retention (hard copy and electronic) are maintained by the RCO Tax Department.

Assist on other tax related matters that arise, including tax advisory projects for UK including European Tax Governance, treasury functions, withholding tax, liquidations, foreign exchange and tax policies. This list is not exhaustive.

Assist with PAYE and other employment tax queries that may arise from the HR department.

Scope of Role
  • Preparation or assistance in a selection of UK tax returns, instalment payments, joint amended returns, tax group relief and other aspects of UK tax compliance for the group. To be reviewed and submitted by the European Tax Manager.
  • Preparation or assistance of corporation tax and deferred tax calculations and related tax notes for inclusion in the statutory accounts of UK companies. Review of the draft statutory accounts for accuracy and consistency. To be reviewed by the European Tax Manager.
  • Assistance with the tax accounting and reporting performed by the financial controllers of our UK companies including group reporting on quarterly/half yearly/yearly basis.
  • Preparation or assistance in the preparation of monthly/quarterly UK VAT returns
  • Involvement in audit, year-end and statutory accounts tax processes and procedures;
  • Involvement in tax forecasting processes and procedures and reviewing tax forecasts prepared by companies/branches
  • Assistance with HMRC enquiries
  • Maintenance of accurate and detailed tax records and files.
  • Provide tax input, as and when required, into key accounting projects such as financial reporting under IFRS, compliance with Japanese SOX and accounting system changes;
  • Ad-hoc projects

Skills, Qualifications and Expertise
  • Be part-qualified (ACA, ACCA OR ATT) with experience of working in a tax and/or accounts-based role or a person with strong accounting and tax experience and knowledge acquired in the profession or industry/commerce
  • Have excellent attention for detail and be determined;
  • Be energetic, questioning and proactive;
  • Be a strong user of Microsoft office;
  • Have sound communication and presentation skills, both spoken and written, to be able to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately with finance and non-finance people;
  • Have good interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and work streams
  • Have strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Has a strong desire to learn and ambition to pursue a tax career

Key Relationships

Report on a day to day basis to the European Tax Manager who reports to the General Manager of Tax - EUROPE Region who in turn reports to the Corporate Director - NGE Finance Division. Develop good working relationships with members of the accounts teams in the relevant group companies.
