Welding Technician, Full time, Temporary, Carlisle

We are looking for a qualified Welder who is keen to move into an Educational support role. We will require someone to work ona temporary basis (ideally from Tuesday 26th August) for a min of 2 weeks initially to ensure materials are ready for learners returning in September. There is a strong possibility that the position will extend into the academic year for the right person.

Key responsibilities would include:
  • To take full responsibility for groups of students and for instructing them in areas identified in provided schemes of work and lesson plans.
  • To implement and follow schemes of work and assessment schedules devised by the course tutor and liaise closely with them to ensure that course requirements are met
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day organisation of student learning areas (e.g. workshops, salons, laboratories) ensuring the provision of an efficient and safe working environment.
  • To provide advice and support to students in their programme of study.
  • To provide a 'drop in' facility to students in particular specialist areas.
  • To carry out instructions or demonstrations in support of learning objectives and in the proper use of equipment and/or machinery ensuring that safe working practices are adhered to at all times.
  • To carry out assessments of practical skills and knowledge and maintain records of student progress.
  • To attend and participate in departmental team meetings, providing information on student progress and other curriculum and College issues.
  • To prepare and clear away materials, equipment and required resources for timetabled classes.
  • To implement a planned maintenance/repair schedule and ensure that service checks are carried out on all equipment at appropriate intervals.
  • To construct, repair and maintain equipment/machinery and apparatus as appropriate.
  • To issue, receive and check tools/equipment and resources used by staff and students.
  • To catalogue and maintain learning resources appropriate to the area.
  • To maintain stock control of consumables and raise orders as required.
  • To receive and store delivered materials and equipment.
  • To maintain good housekeeping standards in the work areas, reporting defects and carrying out repairs using own initiative.
  • To assist with the areas Health and Safety requirements which might include undertaking or supporting any applicable system (e.g. risk assessments, maintaining risk assessment logs, COSHH assessments, PAT testing etc).
