Job Title: Group Engineering Manager

Location: Rotherham

Salary: £Negotiable

  • We are currently recruiting for an experienced Group Engineering Manager for our client at their site in Rotherham, the role will be responsible for the Product engineering and Design and Projects Department for our client.
  • Involved in running and developing the Design department to meet the needs of a changing and evolving company.
  • Ensure that technical solutions are robust and comply with all requirements.
  • Provide a quality service to all its customers, both internally and externally.
  • Manage the department's members and stakeholders to ensure the company vision is reached.
  • Drive project deliveries, maintaining rigorous adherence to completion dates and performance criteria.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the quality standards of the company are fulfilled throughout all areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure that technical solutions are robust and comply with all requirements.
  • Plan and manage the department's workload to ensure that deliverables are met with high quality and within budget.
  • Lead by example with engineering knowledge, attitude and the desire to succeed.
  • Contribute to the profitability of the organisation
  • Implement best fit NPD practices of DMEDI and 5 gate processes for larger projects at a level that supports the business needs.
  • Ensure that fast track innovation (FTI) projects are managed and delivered in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate change control system and ensure changes are accounted for, authorised and implemented, as necessary
  • Co-ordinate the activities of the design team and contractors in line with programme critical dates
  • Monitor progress against programme, and report to the project team
  • Ensure adherence to the design brief/scope of service
  • Involvement with 'design strategy' and approach
  • Support departmental continuous improvement initiatives to increase innovation and reduce time to market
  • Develop mechanical engineering talent through the process of ongoing performance PMS reviews and appraisals
  • Technical responsibility for all mechanical design activity
  • Responsible for Departmental budgets
  • Development and communication of KPIs to monitor departmental performance
  • Manage the approval process in conjunction with the Quality Department.
  • Work closely with Quality and Sales to improve products offered
  • Produce monthly reports to the management meeting
  • Conform in all respects to the works Instructions relating to your department and personal job role.
  • Challenge existing practice to ensure continuous improvements
  • Work with Manufacturing, Sales, Supply Chain and Quality in resolving technical issues
  • In summary Provide an effective engineering service within the organisation, ensuring that design, production engineering and product development requirements are competently met.

General Responsibilities:
  • Attend meetings and training courses when necessary
  • A minimum of degree level qualification - Preferably Chartership.
  • Extensive management experience
  • Have a good understanding of compliance and be well versed with EU directives, standards and associated legal technical conformance files (TCFs)
  • Maintain a flexible approach to all aspects of the job
  • Abide by company rules and regulations as detailed in the Staff Handbook
  • Treat all company information with confidentiality.
  • To put the needs of our customers and suppliers first.
  • Encourage and foster a helpful environment where teamwork and continuous improvement prevail.
  • People Management, including setting clear objectives and proactive performance management, Motivating, managing and developing the team and Manage staff issues with assistance from the HR Team.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Help to develop and improve teams, individuals and self. Lead and contribute to management meetings and group discussions, to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Ensure that immediate management is kept informed, in an appropriate level of detail, about activities, progress, results and achievements.
  • Encourage feedback from subordinates and provide feedback in sufficient detail and in a manner appropriate to the individual(s). Advise and inform all.
  • Be available to travel overseas to support the business and customer needs.
  • Commitment to cross functional team working is essential.
