Our client is an international law firm in London which has an established emerging markets practice and most of the London revenues derive from these markets including sub-Sahara Africa, the Middle East including Israel, CIS etc.

It has already established a profitable and rated finance/disputes practice in recent years in London. To date it has focussed on its core practice capability which include a number of areas within finance such as project and infrastructure finance, structured finance, general syndicated and bi-lateral lending, mezzanine finance, trade and commodities finance and receivables finance. They also have a strong disputes practice covering High Court litigation and International Arbitration with some notable specialist areas.

The partners in London have all come from large international law firm backgrounds and have expertise in numerous established and emerging/frontier markets including Israel, Russia/CIS, sub-Sahara Africa, Maghreb, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. They also have strong links in Europe to Italy, France and Spain.
Their clients include inter-alia financial institutions, trade banks, import/export banks, funds, corporate borrowers, VC companies, private equity houses, hi-tech companies, natural resources companies, smaller emerging market banks and trustees.

The firm's Executive Committee has taken the decision as a part of its core strategy to broaden and expand its London offering. As a result, they are committed to hiring a partner/team to work closely with their international offices.

The firm's US offices are benefitting significantly from referral work from corporate and capital markets work originated directly from one of their key emerging market offices.

Candidates will have a reputation and track record for corporate finance transactions including smaller emerging market originated deals.

Partners with small backup team would be ideal. It could be a partner with a mid-level or senior associate. If the senior associate is looking to step up to partnership quickly or possibly even on day one then this is entirely possible depending on eligibility criteria.

This is an outstanding and rare opportunity to join a firm that is an attractive alternative to the usual offerings of the large international law firms. You will be head of department with no internal competition for work and a lack of the negative politics that can cause. You will likely have some portable clients and business although a self-financing practice is not required.
