Here at Next, we are looking for an Automation Environments Engineer to join our growing HR & Finance Systems team where you will play a crucial part in helping us to drive Next forward in a fast moving retail environment.

The HR & Finance systems teams support both internally developed and 3rd party applications which are used by the Finance and HR departments within Next.

The Environments Engineers are responsible for creating; maintaining and improving systems to meet business needs and to ensure applications perform optimally. The team manage the provision and maintenance of UAT, Development and Production environments and work alongside our Technical, Development and IT Security teams in order to ensure our applications meet audit, security and compliancy standards.

Our environments engineers are key to improving our various development activities, including continuous integration, continuous delivery and continuous monitoring.

Responsibilities
  • Automate the creation, build of Production, UAT and Development environments
  • Automate build and release pipelines of HR & Finance applications
  • Create and maintain data refresh processes and scripts ensuring that sensitive data is kept secure and anonymised
  • Use monitoring tools against applications to analyse and identifying areas for improvement
  • Identify departmental processes that where possible can be streamlined or automated
  • Integrate automated testing into build process
  • Create and maintain documentation detailing environments
  • Provide expert knowledge on IT environment setup, connectivity, server configuration and guide the Project teams in using the environments in the most efficient manner
  • Identify and resolve vulnerabilities and risks across all environments
  • Create system roadmaps for infrastructure and applications to ensure future work is planned in the future
  • Provide 3rd level support to the Support and Development teams during system outages.
  • Work alongside both internal and external Auditing and Security teams in order to maintain security of all environments and data.

Criteria

  • Programming languages C#, .NET Framework and PowerShell
  • TFS - Release Management & Visual Studio
  • Windows & Linux server architecture
  • Experience with .NET Application Stack
  • Ability to communicate with business users, colleagues and management to explain complex issues clearly and concisely
  • Meticulous, thorough and organised approach to work
  • The work undertaken is generally of a highly complex and technical nature so strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Ability to work both in a team and alone and manage own workload
  • Career motivation and a willingness to continue to further your knowledge and skills
