Here at Next, we are looking for a SQL Environments Engineer to join our growing HR & Finance Systems team where you will play a crucial part in helping us to drive Next forward in a fast moving retail environment.

The HR & Finance systems teams support both internally developed and 3rd party applications which are used by the Finance and HR departments within Next.

The Environments Engineers are responsible for creating; maintaining and improving systems to meet business needs and to ensure applications perform optimally. The team manage the provision and maintenance of UAT, Development and Production environments and work alongside our Technical, Development and IT Security teams in order to ensure our applications meet audit, security and compliancy standards.

Our environments/DevOps Engineers are key to improving our various development activities, including continuous integration, continuous delivery and continuous monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Creation, Build and support of Dev, UAT and production SQL environments
  • Create and maintain data anonymization processes / scripts for Dev & UAT environments
  • TFS Integration - Database projects
  • Upgrades and Migrations of SQL Server
  • Removal of Technical Debt DTS, SQL 2000, 2005 & 2008
  • Work alongside Application Architects on SQL Strategy for HR & Finance Systems
  • Introduce best practices, standards and automation where possible
  • Manage SQL backup and DR strategy for HR & Finance Systems
  • Reporting on KPI's across key production systems
  • Work alongside both internal and external Auditing and Security teams in order to maintain security of all environments and data.
  • Provide expert knowledge on IT environment setup, connectivity, server configuration and guide the Project teams in using the environments in the most efficient manner.
  • Use monitoring tools against applications to analyse and identifying areas for improvement
  • Create and maintain documentation detailing the environments which host business applications
  • Provide 3rd level support to the Support and Development teams during system outages.
  • Create system roadmaps for infrastructure and applications to ensure future work is planned in the future.

Criteria


Essential
  • SQL Server Management 2008,2012 & 2017
  • Knowledge of SQL Server programming and database design
  • MSSQL SSIS - ETL Design
  • Data Governance / GDPR
  • TFS source control - database projects
  • Ability to communicate with business users, colleagues and management to explain complex issues clearly and concisely
  • Meticulous, thorough and organised approach to work
  • The work undertaken is generally of a highly complex and technical nature so strong analytical and problem solving skills are required
  • Ability to work both in a team and alone and manage own workload
