Our client is a Charitable Trust formed by the amalgamation of two almshouse charities in the City of Newcastle. The Charity exists mainly to provide housing for older persons who are in need, hardship or distress. The Trust also provides domestic and maintenance services for those beneficiaries requiring assistance. The Charity's area of benefit is the City of Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding area.

As part of ongoing development plans the trust wishes to appoint an interim Chief Executive for a period of 12 months to lead the organisation. You will work closely with the Trustees and Senior Leadership Team to strategically lead the charity into a new, exciting phase. You will assume ultimate responsibility and oversee the management of the full range of services as well as leading the staff during this exciting period of change and growth.

Key responsibilities:
  • To oversee the vision for the Trust and develop strategic and annual plans for the delivery of high-quality services; to establish associated targets and to ensure that outcomes are closely monitored and reported including achievement of all external reporting functions.
  • To keep the Trust Board informed about all relevant aspects of the charity through regular meetings with the Chair and Trustees, and to ensure that the Board and the members of its various Governance committees receive advice and information on all relevant matters to enable them to carry out their governance responsibilities in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • To ensure that the Trust consistently presents its mission, programmes and services as a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders and continues to achieve a reliable, positive and high profile.
  • To ensure provision is made for the protection of the Charity's assets; to identify risks that threaten the operation of the Trust, its reputation or its income; to implement actions and procedures to minimise these risks, including compliance with Health and Safety regulations and to ensure that all such matters are reported to the Trustees.
  • Oversight of the development and direction of a new physical build programme.
  • To work closely with the Trustees and Chair in a full alignment of staff review and structure.

Candidate profile:

You will have significant management experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in the charitable or not-for-profit sector, housing experience is desirable though not essential.

A demonstrable track record of success operating at board level is essential along with alignment and appreciation of the trusts strong value system.

You will be hands on and collaborative with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
