Duties to Include: * Yacht Maintenance and Repairs including: * Yacht preparation including cleaning and refinishing * Yacht turnround between courses including refuelling, replenishment and functional checks and adjustments. * Boat handling and moving including preparation to lift and relaunch * Marine engine routine servicing, fault diagnosis and repairs. * Boat machinery servicing and repair. * Yacht deck equipment, rigging (rope and wire) and sail adjustment and repair. * Boat carpentry repair and refinishing. * Boat glass fibre structure and gel coat repairs. * Boat electrical and electronic equipment testing, fault diagnosis and repair. * Hull and deck surface finishing, painting and repair. * The job includes outside work in all weathers and may at times be of a robust physical nature. * Although the job is primarily land-based, the apprentice will be required to assist as crew of company vessels at sea for a few days at a time. Appropriate training will be provided. * The apprentice will meet customers and be expected to represent the company in a creditable way. * The apprentice will be required to work to the best, safe and professional standards and care for the company's vessels, tools and equipment. Uniform overalls and protective equipment will be provided. * As part of a small team maximum flexibility is needed. The apprentice will carry out servicing and maintenance of our fleet and may be expected to be out at sea for several days acting as crew. * Academic study will be in Fareham for 5 days approximately every 6 weeks and for this purpose the apprentice must travel from Chatham to Fareham on a Monday morning and return on a Friday afternoon (accommodation and travel fares paid for by company). A knowledge of boats would be an advantage. Future prospects Full time position on completion of apprenticeship. If you show the aptitude, real opportunity to train in parallel as a skipper and instructor on sailing and motor yachts.
