Jacobs are involved in the provision of multi-disciplinary design and engineering, requirements and systems engineering along with programme / project management, project controls and risk management to BAE Systems to support their Naval Ships Design programme. This work is being delivered predominantly from our Bristol and Glasgow locations.

Purpose of role:

Provide engineering and management expertise to the delivery of projects/ programmes that are

likely to have a value in excess of millions of pounds and have a significant headcount. Manage

the engineering resource for such projects including the delivery of engineering work and

services using typically an Integrated Project Team comprising of members of many disciplines

where multiple interfaces with customers and suppliers.

To be responsible for the development of engineering design and production output data for the

project including overall management responsibility for either/or Stage 1, 2 and 3 engineering

Teams within cost, schedule and quality targets.

Key Technical Skills

Ability to operate in a large, complex project at engineering management level in a multidisciplinary,

matrix management environment.

Knowledge and experience in use of ship design processes and systems to LCM guidelines

Extensive knowledge of Project Management techniques (EV,CPI,SPI, Risk etc)

Technical knowledge and problem solving.

Project planning and resource management skills.

Company/Industry Knowledge:

5-10 years' experience of managing Design / Detail Design effort or equivalent experience

in a heavy industrial/marine environment

Man management experience

Previous experience on other projects of complexity (new build)

Experienced in Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programmes.

Customer/end user focus/experience as well as customer procurement

Major Programme experience at senior level - concept, build and support


Ideally degree qualified in a relevant discipline.

Experience to Chartered or Incorporated Engineer Standard 10 years. Substantial

experience in Platform engineering design roles at all levels.Our Culture
