Our client is a well-established technical engineering consultancy who are innovative and award winning.

Their Naval/Marine division in Bristol is a lead player in defence and nuclear projects and hey are looking for a number pf Safety Engineers to join their Bristol subject matter experts.

Ship Safety is at the heart of many of my client's defence programmes.

They offer an extensive and diverse range of expert services for their clients, including naval, maritime, weapons technical and functional safety projects.

Specifically, their Weapons Assurance Team are already well established and due to their success, they are looking to grow further.

The successful candidate will work with clients (both direct to MOD and within the supply chain) to provide safety support throughout the life-cycle of their systems, from concept through to disposal. The majority of our work is focused on providing assurance that defence systems are safe to introduce into and remain in-service, in line with regulatory and legal requirements.

There are a wide variety of defence acquisition projects across weapon, maritime, land and air domains, ranging from small equipment through to large and complex systems and platforms. When the need arises, there are variety of non-defence projects for high hazard industries or products, e.g. space, dangerous goods.

You will be undertaking the following tasks:

Safety management strategy / system / plan development.

Safety case development and management.

Hazard identification and analysis (HAZOP, SWIFT, FMEA).

Hazard log management.

Risk assessment and management.

Probabilistic safety assessment, e.g. fault tree analysis (FTA) and event tree analysis (ETA).

Safety argument structuring, e.g. goal structuring notation (GSN).

Safety integrity level (SIL) derivation and assessment / software safety assessment.

ALARP assessment.

Design substantiation.

Independent safety audit/advice.

Regulatory interface and support.

Standards / policy / guidance review and update

Dependability assessments.

We are looking for a range of staff from Junior Engineers to Senior Consultants level, so all CV's are welcome and considered.

You will need to possess a good degree in an engineering, safety or related subject, or be time served from either the Royal Army or Royal Navy where you will have been fully trained in safety.

Our ideal candidate, will have excellent communication skills. e.g. an ability to present (verbally and in writing) well-structured and justified arguments.

You will be responsible for managing project teams and have supervisory skills where by you will be at times auditing others projects and mentoring junior staff.

The following training / qualifications would be desirable for the right candidate:

OME intermediate.

OSRP training - Chair or Panel Member.

Laser safety officers.

Ship safety management training.

Air safety management training.

The candidate will need to hold a British passport in order to gain full security clearance on their projects.

In return our client is offering a salary of £40K - £65K depending on skills and experience and a 8-10% bonus.
