The job opportunity:

The Finance department is responsible for the control of income and expenditure and the jobholder is expected to contribute to the control of such expenditure and invoicing of contract income.
The key aspect of the role is providing assistance to the Finance and Commercial Manager in all aspects of financial and management accounting for the Serco Caledonian Sleepers business.

Main duties:

To assist the Finance and Commercial Manager during month end processes by preparing journals and reconciliations.
To assist the Finance and Commercial Manager during the customer financial reporting process.
Administration of data input for SAP financial processes.
To raise customer invoices in SAP for third party work and overview the invoicing and debt collection processing.
To provide general accounting and administration assistance within the Finance Department, and being a point of contact for queries on Finance matters.
To prepare journals for staff offcharges for and prepare staff cost expenses and overtime reports, and to collate and submit overtime data to payroll.
To assist the Finance and Commercial Manager in preparing utility offcharges & marketing offcharges.
To assist the Finance and Commercial Manager in developing financial forecasts and annual business plan.
To assist staff with SAP queries, liaise with Managers regarding Open Purchase Orders, Blocked invoices, miscoding of costs.
Assist in the achievement of appropriate objectives from the Annual Safety Plan, and to help ensure compliance with the Serco Management System.

What we are looking for in our candidates:

Experience of working within a Finance department is essential. Previous experience of data processing and reconciliations would be an advantage.
Attention to detail with accuracy of financial data being key.
Works in a structured and methodical manner, deadline driven.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office products.
