The landing gear as a system of systems covers multidisciplinary skills such as "structure, systems, hydromechanics, kinematics, aerodynamics, noise, avionics, loads, thermodynamics, performance, stability and control". It is a critical system highly integrated into the aircraft and encapsulates both primary structure and complex systems in a challenging operating environment. You will regularly interface with Chief engineers and Programmes, as well as suppliers and regulatory authorities, hence create your internal and external network leading to career development. We strive for innovative solutions to solve complex problems and anticipate future trends such as predictive maintenance data analytics, Electrification, Additive layer manufacturing and Model Based System Engineering. Tasks and responsibilities A new role has been created in the Landing Gear CoC for a Carbon-Carbon Composite Brake Manufacturing Engineering Specialist, based in Bristol, UK, reporting functionally and operationally to Head of Landing Gear (ATA32) Engineering Excellence. ATA32 is a critical system, highly integrated into the aircraft and encapsulates both primary structure and complex systems in a challenging operating environment. Within the Landing Gear Engineering Systems community, you will be responsible for providing Manufacturing Engineering expertise for Carbon-Carbon Composite brake material to the right quality, on time and within budget, to: o Ensure the design's continuing manufacturability, o Survey/guide the industrialization of new or modified Carbon-Carbon friction materials, o Support identification and capture of manufacturing key characteristics, o Contribute to Wheel & Brake suppliers specifications and suppliers selections, o Eradicate technical disruptions caused by industrialisation issues affecting development and serial programs. You will be involved in leading industrialisation activities during various aircraft development phases, for Carbon-Carbon brakes. You will be working with Wheel & Brake development engineers and approval signatories. You will interface with current and future suppliers to ensure good development of industrialised technical solutions. The role will require a level of travel to supplier's facilities and other Airbus sites. Task & accountabilities :- Assesses manufacturability of the design: o Makes systematic technical risks & opportunities analysis of developments and changes o Participates to development reviews of key products o Challenge options and influence supplier design including choices of technologies , industrial requirements, testability o Contributes to secure design manufacturability in support to designers - Surveys industrialization and transfer of work: o Identifies products' industrialization risks and defines the associated mitigations o On most risky, solves upstream technical problematics to ensure industrial maturity of the supplier before the First Article Inspection and production ramp-up o Other activities may include: o Supporting serial in-service and production aircraft problems, o Supporting eradication of quality flaws in case of industrial causes, o Contributing to recovery of industrial performance improvement initiatives when relevant, o Supporting supplier evaluation and selection from an industrial capability & maturity evaluation perspectives, o Providing feedback design and manufacturing processes: building and sharing lessons learnt and proposing improved practices and processes, o Creating a network of specialists to support technologies and production techniques coordinating & anticipating the competencies' needs evolution, o Developing strategies that protect the long-term position of Airbus. o Provide Carbon-Carbon friction material manufacturing expertise across the Airbus Group including Space & Defence and Airbus Helicopters Required skills :o Landing Gear Carbon Carbon Brake Manufacturing Engineering expertise (manufacturing processes, technologies, machines, key characteristics, carbon brake performance manufacturing drivers, key characteristics) o Awareness of suppliers contractual framework o Project management experience o Awareness of manufacturing control applicable to aerospace applications o Strong transnational team spirit o Ability to work in a supplier environment as the customer o Good communication skills (ability to influence and convince stakeholders, and to present at all business levels) o Negotiation level of English Please ensure that a covering letter detailing motivations and suitability for this position is included in your application.
