Overview

Following a recent successful internal application, DS Smith is now seeking a Lead Accountant for a 9- 12 months secondment that can join and lead the Plastics & TMS finance team based at DS Smith Business Services.

The main purpose of the role is assist in the delivery of best class accounting/reporting service to respective UK businesses.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to develop further their supervisory skills. In addition, as Plastics is being sold, there will be liaison with senior Divisional Management in order to help manage the transition. TMS is also an international business which will give people the opportunity to have more of an appreciation of overseas sales tax / VAT.

The role will involve, in accordance with service level agreements, performing general accounting and reporting activities on behalf of the business in accordance with Group Accounting Policies and requirements, and identifying improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided.

The position will require an understanding of business processes, and it will require interaction with the P2P and C&C departments within the SSC, to ensure that all process are understood and supported.

Some UK travel may be required.

What a Lead Accountant will be doing at DS Smith.
You will lead a team in the processing, accounting and reporting of financial information within the SSC, on behalf of UK Businesses, whilst showing commitment to ongoing review and improvement of the accuracy of the financial data.

The Lead Accountant will lead the team in dealing with intercompany confirmations and queries, monthly intercompany reconciliations, expenses and corporate credit cards administration and other ad hoc work as required, including extension of current service offering in areas such as statutory accounts preparation and submission. The Lead Accountant will:

• Manage the production of appropriate and timely month-cycle activities, including reporting of analysis and metrics - entities reporting packs, intercompany confirmations/queries monitoring, expenses processing/admin, Purchasing card administration
• Ensure that corporate governance standards are clear and maintained
• Manage the production of ad hoc analysis and cleansing data
• Ensure activities are completed to meet reporting deadlines
• Dealing with auditors and year end within the period cycle activates
• Ensure compliance reporting deadlines are met. (Monthly reporting, etc)
• Identify areas of improvement to facilitate continuous improvement, and
lead user groups in implementing standardised processes & improvements
• Guide, monitor and be responsible for the work and performance of team members
• Provide or co-ordinate staff training and support the team to achieve excellent performance
• Supervising & motivating staff
• Ad hoc Team Leader duties as required, including approving leave requests, and undertaking PDR's

• Track record of providing accounting/reporting services
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with both technical and business audiences
• Experience of month end processes and reporting requirements
• A dynamic, self-motivated individual who is used to working to deadlines and able to work under pressure.
• Experience of large international organisations
• Experience in managing and supporting a team
• Experience of using multi-software MI systems
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Preferably Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA)
• Advanced Excel skill
