The company is a Director owned business which was started in 2012, with offices in Manchester, Birmingham, Reading and London. The company was created with a clear focus on staff and clients; to be a place where our staff enjoy and feel proud to work and our clients' come back to us based on the quality of advice they receive. The company currently employees 25 staff with a turnover of around £2.5 million, with aspirations to grow to 40 staff with a turnover of £4m over the next 2-3 years.

About the role

As a Highways Technician you will be tasked with supporting the team in the development of designs as well as using your own initiative as directed by the project leaders. You will be responsible for the quality of the AutoCAD work produced as well as the production of AutoCAD drawings to company CAD standards and to appropriate design standards.

As your experience progresses, you would take the lead in identifying and preparing access strategies from obtaining data, interpreting data and identifying access options, presenting these on drawings and preparing short technical summary notes of these.

The Highway Technician will also be expected to undertake guided assessment of networks including trip distribution and assignment matrices and local junction capacity modelling. Full training will be provided on this and guidance and mentoring will be available to gain a proficient understanding of this area.

About You

We can assume that if you are interested in this role you will understand the basics the role requires. As a guide you will have a minimum of 2 years' experience with an HND or HNC or undertaking a relevant Civil Engineering or Transport Apprenticeship.

We would except a candidate to have some or all of the following:

* The ability to produce drawings in AutoCAD and using Vehicle Tracking is essential;

* A good understanding of technical design guidance and standards such as Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Traffic Signs Manual, Manual for Streets, FTA Designing for Deliveries and IStructE Car Park Design Guide would be an advantage;

* Experience in applying Highways Agency and Local Authority design guidance is essential;

* Awareness and knowledge of local junction capacity modelling (JUNCTIONS 9 and Linsig);

* Good written and spoken communication skills and the ability to work as part of a successful team; and

* The ability to design layouts of a variety of junctions, car parks and service yards.
