Our client are a leading provider of turnkey marine construction services across the UK and Internationally. Due to growth they now require a Marine Technical Manager, ideally based in the North West.

The Role

· To liaise with clients, carry out BD for the marine construction business. Have a strong working knowledge of the design and limitations of pontoon systems. Working knowledge of Uniflote or other similar pontoon systems would be an advantage.
· The successful candidate for the role of Marine Technical Manager will have overall responsibility for the commercial performance, quality and safety of the marine business stream.
· To liaise with clients, carry out BD for the marine business. Have a strong working knowledge of the design and limitations of the Uniflote or other similar pontoon system and have a strong marine background.
· Be able to develop and detail sustainable mooring systems, detail layouts of pontoons, undertake stability checks.
· Have a working knowledge of tugs, workboats, and the operation of vessels. Understand the UK Standards for operating marine plant and equipment on both inshore, inland waterways, ports and harbours and canals. Be able to size the tugs to manoeuvre pontoon set ups in various flow and weather exposure conditions.
· Knowledge of the UK export restrictions and processes for the pontoon system.
· Price client requirements and produce quotations.
· Manage subcontract packages and hires, have a knowledge of the CPA and Barecon conditions of hire. Knowledge of subcontract terms and conditions.
· Chase clients for payment of accounts, produce and submit application for payment.
· Understand steel fabrication and the standards required to construct the pontoons.
· Appointed person for lifting operations.
· Marketing of pontoon systems at events and locations in UK and abroad.
· Produce forecast and spend profiles.
· Input into business plan.
· Identify new opportunities in the marine market and put forward business case for investment.
· Assist with the management and maintenance of the yard and facilities as necessary.

The Person

· Degree qualified in an engineering/marine/naval discipline.
· Member of the ICE or equivalent.
· The candidate will come from a strong marine background and be technically competent to advise on pontoon set ups and the equipment required to service the units in operation.
· Able to travel and visit clients, sites, and undertake simple surveys.
· Able to safely and efficiently plan mobilisation and demobilisation of the marine set ups.
· Able to maintain CE Marking standards or a Lloyds equivalent for pontoon manufacture.
· To be able to identify plant items to expand the fleet, able to put together CAPEX to support our major investment plans.
· Understanding of tidal conditions, requirements for bathymetric surveying, river flows, wind forces and their effect on the operation of the pontoon system together with mooring and towage.
· To be able to advise on tug requirements and towing bridle arrangements, sea fastenings for loads and equipment.
· Be able to read charts and tide information to understand likely operating conditions.
· Knowledge of painting systems and fabrication techniques.
· CSCS Site Manager.
· 5 Day SMSTS.
· SEATS.
· CPCS Appointed Person LOLER.
· Would suit someone with RN, RFA, RLC or REME experience.
