Role/Scope of a Quality Manager
Take ownership for driving consistent change and improvement initiatives in quality processes within a Manufacturing Centre.
As part of the senior lead team having responsibility for meeting business performance commitments to key stakeholders. Leading a quality culture throughout the business, taking lead responsibility for Product Quality, RFT, Accreditation and drive continuous improvement in cost of quality with emphasis on addressing root causes.
In addition to the multi-site Lead role, the job will include coordination and management of the quality function on the site of residence, along with managing the QMS system and underpinning the recent AS9100 accreditation.
Matrix style organization will provide central group strategic direction whilst being part of the local management team with a dotted line relationship to the site Operations Director.
Responsibilities include:
Multi-site role
* To work with the Lead team in developing and implementing strategies across sites.
* Establishing effective interfaces between the sites and the Business Units to ensure a robust Contract Review process.
* Driving home the model of business process ownership, ie, Engineering responsibilities for resolving RMA issues and Configuration/Change management throughout the business.
* Using Quality Metrics to monitor and drive consistent methods in addressing COPQ.
* Working with Supply Chain/Operations to implement Supply Risk avoidance plans and Make vs Buy analysis with appropriate control plans for any works transfer activities.
* Overseeing a common phased approach to attaining AS9100.
* Development of Quality staff and supporting the annual budgeting process.
Site role
* Underpin AS9100. This will involve embedding a culture of functional accountability, overhauling the current QMS and ongoing awareness training as part of the reorientation.
* Product verification. Identification of relevant regulatory requirements, Design Verification Test approval, Product Qualification Plan & Report approval, Independent Reviews within NPI process for Release to Manufacture. FAIR (1st Articles), Product inspection and test plans.
* Customer Returns - manage root cause analysis and preventative actions process.
* Material inspection. Controlling correct measure of inspection, supporting supply chain in supplier performance reporting, monitoring and risk mitigation activities. Auditing suppliers as required.
* Accreditations. Manage on site periodic audits for existing accreditations and projects manage to standards identified by business need.
* Internal audits, Process corrective actions, business process improvements and compliance audits
* QMS Management Review Process
* Ensuring an effecting equipment calibration system
* Customer support. On site quality audits and questionnaires as required by the business.
* Cost of non-quality. Tracking of KPI and plan implementation to decrease cost of non-quality.
* Work with the wider Group Quality function in deploying a standard processes and tools.
Education/Skills and Experience
* Degree level engineering qualification or equivalent
* Previous experience within a quality management role, ideally within a technical development/manufacturing environment
* 5 years industry experience of introducing and maintaining either; AS9100 or ISO13485
* Proven Project Management experience - ability to lead large cross functional projects involving multi-tasking
* Experience in implementing process improvements using a structured problem solving methodology
* Proven track record with deployment of Continuous Improvement projects using a structured problem solving methodology
* Working level demonstration of Lean Six Sigma is essential and awareness of the SC21 or SiG initiatives would be beneficial
* Strong leadership, influencing, communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills
* Attention to detail with excellent analytical skills
* Practical experience of ISO14001 would also be beneficial
