Main Scope of the Role:

The Export & Commodity Hedging Manager responsibility is to fulfil the risk management and hedging needs under commercial risk management policy, as well as engage with external counterparties for world market exports and approved derivative counterparties.

An integral part of this role is to support our operating companies in the UK, Spain, China, and Africa, to identify and evaluate opportunities for managing price risk and execute derivative trading and exports. You will also develop and communicate the implications of trends and developments in the world sugar market, soft commodity markets in general, and wider macro-economic indicators such as exchange rates.

Key Results Areas:
  • Support operating companies commercial/front office in selecting appropriate hedging activities to manage price and volume exposure of their portfolio within approved strategies
  • Execute commodity risk management derivative trades with counterparties under group approved strategies and within delegated limits
  • Fulfil all requirements for front office activities including capture of key trading data, analysis of performance and identification of pricing opportunities
  • Engage and develop approved financial counterparties to maintain multiple derivative hedging opportunities for sugar and ethanol and identify lowest transaction cost opportunities
  • Engage with external trading customers to maintain a market view of global export opportunities
  • Conduct technical analysis of key sugar futures markets; analyse market trends, spreads, trade flows and patterns and make appropriate recommendations
  • Support the development consensus for in-house views on key market metrics such as market supply and demand balance sheets
  • Share insight with AB Sugar companies to develop sales stories and aid commercial tactics and planning
  • Work with AB Sugar businesses to analyse key commercial data. Review sales and purchase price/volumes to understand margins, risk, exposure and opportunities for continuous improvement in commercial area
  • Produce and present monthly update to senior management team regarding market and risk profile
  • Provide global market insight though market insight WebEx/conference calls
  • Conduct ad-hoc market analysis as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
  • Comprehensive experience of commercial risk management and price hedging in commodities markets
  • A proven track record of researching and conducting analysis of commodity markets and trends, identifying themes and relationships, and creating recommendations for the business
  • Proven ability to analyse a large volume of complex data, using advance techniques in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of presenting complex trends to a group of Senior Stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Demonstrable background in customer or counterparty management and negotiation
