A great opportunity to work in an exciting and dynamic policy and public affairs team in the role of Policy and Public Affairs Officer supporting the delivery of an ambitious programme of policy and public affairs work on loneliness and social isolation, as part of our partnership with the Co-op.

What you will be doing
Loneliness has been described as one of the biggest public health issues of our time. The British Red Cross, through innovative services, research and advocacy, has played a leading role in putting loneliness at the heart of Government policy making.

As a Policy and Public Affairs Officer you will play a key role in taking this exciting agenda forward. You will act as the secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Loneliness, including leading the delivery of a parliamentary inquiry on loneliness throughout 2020.

Up until the end of 2019 you will also be responsible for providing secretariat support to the Loneliness Action Group; a group comprised of dozens of national public, private and voluntary organisations that has been tasked by government to act as a critical friend and source of expert advice

What we are looking for
We are looking for a candidate who has knowledge of and/or demonstrable interest in loneliness and social isolation and relevant public policy issues and an excellent working knowledge of parliamentary process and decision-making mechanisms in Whitehall.

You should also have:
* Experience and/or demonstrable interest in policy development or advocacy (at a national or local level).
* Experience of managing and delivering high-profile policy set piece events, including but not limited to: managing APPGs, organising Party Conference activities and Parliamentary roundtables and receptions.
* Experience of engaging and working with high profile decision makers and policy officials including MPs and Peers.
* Experience of successfully managing a number of different projects at any given time, completing them to a high level of quality.

Meet the team
The role of Policy and Public Affairs Officer is part of the Communications and Advocacy directorate which tells the stories about who we are, what we do, what we believe, and the difference we make to people's lives - so that both externally and internally people act, behave, or make decisions in a way that results in a positive change for people in crisis.

Closing date for applications is 23.59 on the 8th of September 2019 with interviews scheduled to take place on the 16th and 17th of September.

We offer a wide range of staff benefits, these include:
* 36 days holiday (including Bank Holidays)
* Option to buy an extra 5 days annual leave
* Up to 6% contributory pension
* Flexible working policy
