Job Title - Network and Voice Engineer

Location - Milton Keynes

Rates - £382.25 LTD/Umbrella - £333.75 PAYE

About the role / project:

Network Rail are looking for a Network and Voice Engineer to come and join one of the Digital Teams based in Milton Keynes. Ideally looking for someone who has a background of upgrading, migrating and deploying Network and Voice technologies (Cisco/Mitel). A successful candidate will have a diverse background using a variety of vendors to offer a consultative approach.

What you will do:
  • Identify opportunities and manage innovation to facilitate the achievement of corporate objectives.
  • Lead the customer-focused development of equipment, systems and processes to agreed cost, time and quality. Confirm the business case remains robust throughout developments.
  • Provide input to the development of policy and to the development and management of voice switching and standards, specifications and engineering competence requirements.
  • Maintain close liaison with manufacturers who wish to supply equipment to the railway. Influence the development of technology to meet company needs. Provide technical input to acceptance processes.
  • Provide expert technical advice on voice switching and associated equipment, systems and processes to the rest of the organisation and to external bodies.
  • Provide expert technical input to investigations and the management of resulting recommendations.
  • Conduct Engineering verification activities as directed in support of the national programme and provide support to other corporate assurance processes.


  • Incorporated Engineer, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of learning
  • Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Substantial engineering experience in a project or maintenance environment in the area of voice switching
  • Knowledge of policies and standards relating to voice switching
  • Knowledge of the engineering safety management and risk assessment processes
  • Holds relevant professional license or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales
  • Understanding of project management and financial analysis principles

  • Chartered Engineer
  • Experience in a safety critical role
  • Experience in both maintenance and projects
  • Good understanding and experience of assurance activities
