What will you be doing as a Management Accountant?

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this is a pivotal role in the UK A&FC team. The Finance Manager is responsible for critical management accounting activities, with specific focus on tax compliance and cashflow forecasting / reporting.

Typical work responsibilities include:
  • Cashflow reporting and forecasting for the UK division c.£80m weekly transactions. Collecting and analysing data derived from multiple sources, in order to update the cashflow model and accurately forecast inflows, outflows and cash positions over a 12 week period. Explaining any variances in actuals to forecasts within a weekly commentary report.
  • Ownership of the Bank reconciliation process, ensuring all bank accounts are reconciled on a timely basis and all reconciling items are kept to a minimum.
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT Returns and detailed calculation of VAT liabilities, to be presented to the SMT for detailed review before submission to HMRC. Further develop and improve the reconciliation pack, in order to strengthen controls and create efficiencies.
  • Finance lead for the implementation of MTD for the UK fuel division.
  • Preparation and submission of monthly EC Sales Lists and Intrastat returns.
  • Assist with the compilation of annual Corporation Tax computations.
  • Calculation and timely payment of Corporation tax instalments payable to HMRC.
  • Completion of P11ds for all applicable employees, identifying BIK's and applying relevant taxation rules.
  • Preparation of the annual PSA submission to HMRC, in accordance with the various rules and allowances.
  • Completion of National Statistics and RDCO returns.
  • Preparation and submission of annual FCA Returns, via Gabriel online portal
  • Ownership of the monthly Intercompany reconciliation process, with all group entities for trade, non-trade and cash transactions, including loans and currency revaluations.
  • Develop and implement strong controls and procedures within the finance area, providing a strong base for the continued rapid growth of the business.
  • Have a significant influence in the design and implementation of the new Oracle Financials ERP system.
  • Support the Financial Controller with one-off technical practical assignments.
  • Consistently and accurately complete tasks on a timely basis, ahead of internal / external deadlines.
  • Collaborate and share your experience and knowledge with colleagues within the Accounting & Financial Control department, thus maintaining the continuing ethos of the company to improve and promote within.
  • Keep up to date with all relevant laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to tax compliance responsibilities.

Qualifications and specialist training required:
  • Qualified CIMA, ACCA or ACA accountant.
  • Educated to degree level, minimum 2:1.

What experience/skills/attributes do you need?

Experience required:

The essential skills/attributes are: -
  • Minimum 3 years' experience of working in a Finance related role; with an exposure to VAT and tax compliance
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Advanced Excel skills - including experience of creating and using Pivot Tables and V-Look Up
  • Experience of Sage, Oracle financials or similar accounting systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of interacting across all levels of the organisation including dealing with non-finance people to gather relevant information
  • Experience of fostering strong working relationships within the finance team and across the organisation.
  • Excellent attention to detail
