We are seeking to recruit an experienced, dedicated, enthusiastic and highly motivated Nursery Manager.

The Nursery sits within Upper Nithsdale, providing 1140hrs to families in Kelloholm and Kirkconnel. Kelloholm Nursery is very much at the centre of the community and works closely with all partner agencies. The Nursery service supports eligible 2 year olds.

The Nursery is very well resourced and benefits from a large outdoor area. The Nursery shares space within the school e. g. main hall for sports activities and the large open playground which includes green field areas, climbing wall and garden area.

You should have a passion for working in early years and experience, knowledge and understanding of the current approach of learning through play which we are developing within our setting. Knowledge and experience of current documentation in particular Building the Ambition/Curriculum for Excellence - Early Level and My World Outdoors would be advantageous. We will support you to inspire the learning of our children and young people in our setting. There will be a number of opportunities for you to develop many leadership skills in this role. We are looking for individuals who enjoy working collegiately with colleagues, and who have a firm commitment to improving the outcomes for our young people.

You will be responsible for the managing the day-to-day operation of the nursery, ensuring that all children are provided with high quality early learning and childcare.

Candidates are required to hold a BA in Childhood Practice, or other relevant childcare qualification equivalent to SCQF level 9. This qualification will enable candidates to register with Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) as a Manager of a Day-Care of Children's Service (without conditions). A list of qualifications can be found on the SSSC Website. (Candidates may be considered if they achieved one of the degrees listed on the SSSC website after December 2010, for example, BA Childhood Studies but now require to upgrade this degree to Childhood Practice Level 9. Candidates will be required to undertake any additional modules to bring their degree to Childhood Practice level 9. Candidates will also be considered if they hold the relevant degree however do not hold the practice qualification (i.e. SVQ Level 3). These candidates, should they be successful, will be required to complete an SVQ whilst in post within a defined period of time. Failure to do so will result in the termination of their contract. Contracts will contain Terms & Conditions to reflect this.

Candidates should, on an individual basis, ensure they are able to register with the SSSC prior to applying for the post. Candidates will be responsible for their own registration fees.

Requirements
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
