Head of Contracts. As the Head of Contracts you will be working for a London Borough. Salary to £75k, this is a fixed term contract for 18 months

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Sales, your role is to set the strategy and lead the development of responsible procurement, social value, contract savings, and negotiations which deliver greatly improved value for money, new income streams and contractual governance.

You will lead by example (across the organisation where necessary) and develop improved procurement and commercial outcomes in an environment which nurtures strategic and commercial thinking and robust monitoring and management of contracts.

You will lead contract managers in having the right mind-set in seeking improvements and variations to contracts, monitoring performance and entering into key negotiations.

The role requires you to think creatively as well as embedding ideas into contracts and specifications which inherently protect the council's commercial interest and allow for flexible contracting and improved commercial performance. We will be a diligent and informed commissioner of public services that demands the best from our contractors.

You will inspire and drive good commercial and procurement practice among colleagues responsible for developing, procuring and managing council contracts and services. You will seek to ensure knowledge and good practice is captured and shared across the council.

You will support colleagues and Service directors in envisioning and delivering the staffing structure needed to deliver and manage key services once procured. The council is in a transformation phase looking to respond to financial challenges and what we procure must be aligned with how we intend to manage those services to best effect and this will necessarily mean you will need to be a champion for transformation and change.

Forging commercial partnerships across a range of sectors will go hand in hand in understanding the language of business and building strong and credible relationships with commercially-focused organisations. You will also forge and lead partnerships with public sector partners, using your experience to ensure our partnerships build trust, shared responsibility, clear lines of accountability and fairness for all partners involved.

You will embed robust contract monitoring, coherent reporting structures, clear accountability and improved commercial and contract management across the Council.
