Our in-house multi-disciplinary services include civil, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation, supplemented by the design and manufacture of Control Panels, MCC's, PLC's, SCADA and automation systems. We also provide a range of bespoke modular and containerised water & wastewater treatment and fuel conditioning systems.

We are currently interviewing for a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Head Office design team in Southampton. You will be working within a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers, responsible for the production design deliverables for water, wastewater and biosolids treatment plants. You will be reporting into the Mechanical Design Manager and will be assigned a mechanical design mentor, to advise on the required techniques to complete design engineering functions. As you progress you will be responsible for elements of design, taking greater responsibility for your work.Continual professional development including professional registration is encouraged and actively supported.

Role & Responsibilities

·Reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager

·Delivering the production design deliverables for water, wastewater and biosolids treatment plants

·Interpreting and understanding client requirements from client documents (drawings, specifications, correspondence etc)

·Responsible for assisting in all aspects of mechanical design from site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing

·Under close supervision of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, assisting with the production of procurement specifications for mechanical equipment; hydraulic calculations and production of detailed design construction drawings

·Undertaking design calculations, including hydraulics and pumping systems

·Reviewing third party designs and providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams

·Communication with client, external design resources and subcontractors to ensure compliance with specification

·Overseeing the preparation of CAD drawings in accordance with the TEL Drawing Manual

·Undertake design risk assessments to support detailed design proposals

·Responsible for preparing detailed mechanical specifications

·Liaising with clients and subcontractors

Graduate Scheme

The Trant Graduate Scheme is offered to all Graduates joining the business. This a period of training and development over 24 months, where you are assigned a mentor to carry out basic training associated with your discipline to enable you move from a Graduate Engineer, to a Junior Engineer to a fully competent Engineer.

You will initially be inducted into the business and spend time with various departments. During this time you will receive safety, health, environmental & quality training, learn the company policies & procedures and receive training to use the company Project Management System.

After this, you will join your engineering teams (being guided by your mentor) and will become competent in carrying out design engineering tasks. At 12 months, you will have commenced working on your professional review Initial Professional Development (IPD) and will be actively engaged in the Professional Forum. At this time you should be ready to work independently as a Junior Engineer and by 24 months you should be classified as an Engineer and likely to be mentoring your own first year Graduate.


·BEng (Hons) or MEng Mechanical Engineering degree (IMECHE Accredited preferred)

·Knowledge and awareness of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality

·Competent in Microsoft Office and CAD packages
