London with UK Travel

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in one of the UK's most prestigious and innovative transport engineering programmes. My client is delivering and operating a world-class fleet of trains for the UK rail industry that will provide unbeatable performance, reliability and value for money. They now require an Assistant Fleet Manager to join the team overseeing technical aspects of the rolling stock delivery and operations.

The Assistant Fleet Manager will be involved in all technical aspects of the fleet configuration, performance and maintenance. This will include delivery, testing, approval and acceptance of new rolling stock as well as oversight of the maintenance regime for existing train units. He or she will work closely with a wide group of stakeholders including the train manufacturer, train operating company and network Rail to drive up reliability and safety standards and propel continuous improvement programmes. The Assistant Fleet Manager will be the eyes and ears of the Fleet Manager, performing on-site reviews and inspections as required and recommending activities and actions to improve the performance of the rolling stock.

The successful candidate will have a background in railway engineering gained with a manufacturer, operator, rolling stock leasing or maintenance company, or regulatory body. He or she will probably be degree qualified and either already be chartered or be working towards it. An understanding of railway technical regulations (Interoperability, ROGS, RGS etc.) and an understanding of the rail regulatory framework would be useful. Above all, we are looking for a strong communicator, able to understand technical issues and to work with complex, matrixed teams to manage them.
