Contract: Temporary

Reporting to: Managing Director

Location: St Helens

Job purpose

As the NPD manager, you will help to deliver the site strategy by creating and developing new and exciting products by researching market trends and working with the Process Manager to understand factory capabilities. You will not only work strategically but also be hands on, supervising trials and taste panels to increase quality and manage costs. With the ability to build relationships with the retailers and food service businesses, you will supervise your products all the way through to launch and ensure deadlines are met.

Main duties

* To develop a portfolio of new products in line with company strategy / factory constraints.

* Management of product development briefs from commercial team to create and develop recipes and provide samples/presentations to customers.

* To maintain records of development processes in line with quality standards.

* To source ingredients and materials and collate specifications.

* Manage recipes and formulations and ensure 'on pack' nutritional and labelling claims are compliant with legislation.

* Build costings for recipes and new products by liaising with suppliers / purchasing department / projects / customers.

* To coordinate factory trials, first production runs and customer sign-off.

* To complete online technical systems/corporate technical policies for retailers.

* To ensure artwork sign-off whilst adhering to correct legislation.

* To play an active part in the creation of specifications.

* To maintain a supplier database.

* To take responsibility for identifying opportunities and new trends.

* To be an active member of the company HACCP team.

* Take an active role in strategic development meetings and other senior management meetings as required e.g. project development meetings.

* Compile and issue monthly reports for NPD processes.

* Any other duties commensurate with this role.

Qualifications

* HACCP

* NPD professional with a degree in food science or technology qualification

* Food Safety

* Nutritional and labelling legislation

Experience

* Minimum of 3 years' experience

* Nutritional and labelling legislation experience

* Retailer web based systems

* Experience of bakery / confectionary / cereals

Knowledge

* Functionality of ingredients

* Knowledge of retailer requirements and standards

* Good working knowledge of the technical aspects of food innovation and development

Skills

* Effective planning and organisational skills

* Good communication skills

* Good IT skills (MS Office)
