An oversubscribed SEN school in Southwark is recruiting X3 experienced teaching assistants to start in September 2019. The positions are full time, 8.15am-4.15pm (Monday - Friday) until the end of the academic year.

The school caters for 150 secondary aged students a wide range of needs such as ASD, ADHD, SLD and complex needs. They have a strong academic focus, however are equally keen to promote positive wellbeing offering mindfulness and a number of therapies to students and families.

The selected candidates will be supporting students across Key Stage 3 and 4 on a whole class and 1:1 basis.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in an SEN school. You will support students in lessons, as well as at lunch and/or at break. You will be directed by the class teacher and therapists/specialist staff at the school. The main skills required will be resilience, consistency and the ability to build good relationships. Previous experience within an SEN school would be advantageous. As well as supporting students academically, you will also work on self-esteem and social skills.

To be considered for this role, you must have a valid Team Teach certificate or be prepared to complete Team Teach training.

Knowledge/training in PEG feeding, manual handling and personal care would be desirable.

Ideally you will have a DBS on the update service and be able to provide 2 references covering the last 2 years.

The school is in zone 2 and accessible from a number of bus routes and train lines.

  • Experience supporting children with SEN
  • Previous support work within a school or other child related experience
