General background

There are major digital and data driven disruptions threatening our industry in the coming years. As tech, healthcare, retail and social increasingly come together there are also new, disruptive players entering our field.

These disruptions create a burning platform for us, but if embraced they also provide a significant opportunity. We have a clear strategy to make sure that we make the most of the close links that exist between advances in technology and healthcare to transform GSK.

With the new opportunities come new threats to large companies like GSK. Every day, confidential data is compromised with hackers proactively attacking new vulnerabilities in increasingly sophisticated ways. Our Chief Information Security Officer, Matt McCormack joined GSK just over a year ago, to transform the cyber security and risk team, to drive the key objective of keep GSK, its employees, customers and patients, secure.

Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities:

The purpose of this role is to drive the delivery of engaging communications across the Tech Security & Risk organisation and across GSK where relevant.

The role works closely with the wider Tech & Digital communications team to ensure that activities are aligned, coordinated and integrated with global priorities.
  • Key responsibilities:
  • Communications lead for Tech Security & Risk, taking a lead on key communication with an emphasis on global activities
  • Work closely with the Portfolio Director to develop communications strategies and plans, with target metrics, to support delivery of TSR campaigns and activities
  • Support any change activity eg re-organisation or announcements with timely and coordinated approach
  • Produce/edit content articles, biographies, videos, photography, graphics
  • Manage social media drive TSR activity on Workplace and use data to drive continuous improvement
  • Support events eg All Hands, Town Halls, Conferences, Fundraising, Teambuilding
  • Support key programmes and initiatives (eg Cyberfit)
  • Ensure alignment with Global Tech Comms, participating in Tech Comms Forum
  • Seek opportunities to simplify and connect the dots across The One and Tech more broadly

Key skills and attributes:
  • Experience delivering Tech communications a strong advantage
  • Experience of transformation communications planning and execution
  • Tenacity, resilience and ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Strong judgement and integrity, handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Gravitas, influencing skills and ability to build strong rapport with leaders at the most senior level
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Digital skills with ability to effectively and proactively use internal social and digital channels
  • Confident senior stakeholder engagement and management
  • Ability to work in effectively in a highly matrixed and global organisation

  • Formal training in communication would be an advantage but is not a requirement
