A successful, nationally-known business is looking for a Finance & Governance Lead to join its fast-growing Payroll department. This is a brand new position where you will lead all aspects of financial management for the payroll process.

The payroll department is part of the company's HR and People Function. It is here to ensure that all employees are paid accurately and timely with the correct withholdings and deductions and to ensure they are remitted in a timely manner.

It's a role for someone who enjoys working with others as you will be tasked with providing information and flagging any issues to the Payroll Lead as well as liaising with Finance, Treasury and Audit teams. You will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with legal requirements and sharing governance methodology.

This role could be either full time or part time (minimum of 3 full days per week) depending on your situation.

Role and Responsibilities

* Oversee all payroll balance sheet accounts to the General Ledger
* Month end processing including raising and posting journals, preparing and reviewing reconciliations, responding to review queries raised by the Financial Reporting Manager
* Ensure all financial controls are adhered to and manage associated risk assessments
* Check that any end of year adjustments are reconciled and paid to HMRC by the deadline
* Work with internal and external auditors
* Process payments as required
* Maintain compliance with key data standards (such as GDPR/Privacy)
* Raise awareness and drive the importance of data across the organisation. Organise meaningful training and define a communications strategy for all data governance-related activities
* Work with Change team to embed data governance into the change management process, providing governance and controls on all changes to data or new data sources introduced
* Review and manage monthly performance of payroll analytics
* Support the wider team both from a leadership perspective and from a technical & financial perspective

Skills and Experience

If the following attributes apply to you, we would love to know!
* AAT qualified or hold an equivalent qualification
* Have full understanding of financial regulations and payroll reconciliation processes
* Fully computer-literate, with advanced knowledge of Excel and Word packages
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* A committed team worker with a professional, yet personable demeanour
* Detailed knowledge of data governance practices and approaches related to data protection (GDPR)
* Knowledge and understanding of data management tools.
* Experience in promoting good financial governance practice across teams

* Salary up to £49,000 depending on skills, experience and qualifications
