Job Purpose

To support the day to day running of ICT facilities within the business, as well as undertaking general tasks which will promote the use of ICT across all areas of the business. The IT Systems Engineer will have particular responsibility for the development of new and existing ICT Systems and technical Projects within the team, but will also be able to work flexibly to provide ICT support as required and to assist with the support of the server estate and related back end systems, including voice and network data communications, application software and the provision of first/second/third line support of desktop, network and server systems whilst ensuring compliance with security standards, procedures and guidelines.

The IT Systems Engineer will also have responsibility of mentoring other ICT Engineers and Technicians within the department.

Duties

Monitoring (Under the direction of the ICT Services & Innovations Manager) the installations of new systems & equipment.

Mentor and train other IT Engineers/ICT Technicians within the department (where required).

In conjunction with the ICT Services & Innovation Manager take on the lead responsibility for the technical development and update of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and other Online Learning Platforms; whilst also assisting with the technical functionality of the Website, Management Information System (iSAMS) and other web based resources/portals/smart phone applications.

Develop proposals as necessary for upgrading existing systems and developing new systems whilst ensuring the current suite of connections and facilities meet the business needs.

Ensure consistent documentation of all development and technical projects/Systems and follow departmental backup, virus protection and security procedures.

Manage/Administer and develop the Network and Computer Security suite of Systems and Applications (For example: Internet Gateways/Web Application and Internal Firewalls, 2FA, Data Encryption, Microsoft SCCM, Antivirus and Patch Management Systems).

Ensure prompt and professional responses to maintenance and training in ensuring that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are adhered to.

Setup and maintain computer/network peripheral equipment such as scanners, printers, Interactive Whiteboards, data projectors, wireless access points, network switches, and firewalls; ensuring that these are ready to be used as necessary.

FOR THIS ROLE IT IS ESSENTIAL TO DRIVE AND HAVE YOUR OWN VEHICLE AS IT IS MULTI SITE BASED IN BEDFORD
