Scope of Role

Responsible for project delivery in functional safety domain at vehicle level.

Candidate must be hungry for success with a keen eye for detail and quality. Ability to take criticism and challenge with facts and evidence to ensure there is no ambiguity that communications are clear and timely and through the relevant channels. Reporting must be concise and to the point. Planning and execution of those fully tracked and reported.

TTL Environment

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers.

Area of Responsibility
  • You will provide leadership and coordination for all aspects of automotive electrical functional safety, primarily with chassis and electrical department systems.
  • It is required that in addition to the above, as a secondary aspect, electrical functional safety leadership can be extended to any other electrical system on a vehicle.
  • You will provide consultancy and technical functional safety guidance to teams of electrical engineers. Depending on the project being undertaken it will also be necessary to deliver work products in accordance with ISO26262 practice.
  • You will take part in Safety Assessment and Safety Management of the system/ vehicle.
  • Develop electrical functional safety processes for Tata Technologies, as well as for Tata Technologies customers.
  • Validate that all products meet the specification requirements and project targets against company processes to deliver a documented, robust safety case.
  • In support of any safety case, it is also a requirement to be able to deliver System FMEA and FTA.

Knowledge / Experience

Essential experience for this role would include:
  • A sound knowledge of automotive chassis and electrical systems.
  • Experience with embedded systems, particularly safety-related systems.
  • Expertise on Technical Concept Creation, consulting HW/SW development accordance with ISO26262.
  • Identifying hazards, performing risk assessments and classification.
  • User and systems level requirements capture, management and technical review.
  • Experience with DOORs would be an asset.
  • System level architectural design and technical review
  • Expertise in Safety Management e.g. Creating DIA, Safety Plan, In-house training, confirmation review, support for quality process, CM/CM, Traceability etc.
  • Safety analysis techniques e.g. FMEA, FTA (qualitative and quantitative), HAZOP, FSC, TSC etc.
  • Expertise in design level analysis e.g. RPA, DFMEA, SPFM, LFM, FRC, PMHF, SW FMEA/ETA, Dependant Failure Analysis, SW tool Qualification.
  • Expertise in Safety validation, Safety compliance in integrated system environment.
  • Controllability of vehicles, in particular vehicle dynamics, control system performance and human-machine interactions.
  • Leading, defining and releasing safety cases.
  • Generation of DIAs (Development Interface Agreements).
  • Knowledge of hybrid electric vehicles and associated automotive systems with their interactions.
  • Engineering process development and practical implementation; including ISO26262, ISO 15504 (SPICE).

Key attributes will be:
  1. Strong track record of delivering significant high value business and delivering to very tight timescales.
  2. Driven to delivering high quality projects, on time and budget, beyond customer expectations.
  3. A minimum of 5 years relevant automotive industry experience, preferably within OEM, Tier 1 or consultancy business.
  4. Expert in ISO26262 and safety case derivation in all its aspects.
  5. Expert in Latest system and design techniques, including system modelling.
  6. Expert in Formal system and software design process.
  7. A mindset that is able to probe and audit safety case material that is presented for review.
  8. Proficient in HIL testing for complex embedded systems.
  9. Proficient in understanding of HV powertrain systems.

In a delivery role, you will need to be comfortable meeting customers and developing relationships and operating within the Global Vehicle Programs and Development group to deliver business. Working internally, you will need to demonstrate best working practices, be good at motivating off-shore teams and able to deliver clear written safety cases.
