Melbreck Technical are working with a world leading designer and manufacturer of special purpose equipment for the Aerospace, Defence and Nuclear Sectors.
They have had a fantastic 12 months and are looking to strengthen their Executive team by the way of hiring an Engineering Director.
As a member of the Executive team, you will be responsible for leading and driving the Engineering Function to deliver high quality engineering services and solutions, that enable growth and development of their business through achieving unrivalled excellence in product design.
Delivering a dynamic approach to product innovation and through working closely with customers to better understand their needs and derive commercially viable solutions that align to the strategic plans of the business.
Responsibilities:
Develop strategic plans for Engineering, with particular emphasis on delivering the service and quality of engineering required to support and meet existing and future business needs.

Develop resourcing plans that ensure the effective attraction, retention and deployment of the right calibre of engineering staff for allocation to key projects and programmes within Product Lines, including developing and acquiring the necessary skills, equipment and resources required to deliver effective solutions.

Work closely with the President of the Company and the Executive team to develop plans to grow the business.

Work closely with the Sales and Marketing Director and Business Unit Managers in the support of product / customer objectives and engineering based sales processes.

Develop innovative products and solutions that will support future business growth in existing and new markets.

Represent the Company as its engineering expert for customers and other external bodies.

Ensure projects undertaken by Engineering are completed on time and to the satisfaction of customers, both internal and external, and any certifying authorities.

Participate in and oversee initial design reviews for key products.

Initiate and contribute to project reviews with staff from Engineering and other parts of the Company.

Validate and sign off key projects once they are completed to specifications.

Ensure that the systems and procedures are in place to ensure an effective, efficient and transparent use of engineering resources.

Ensure that high standards of engineering professionalism are adopted throughout Engineering, and ensure there is an enthusiastic, open and honest ethos.

Monitor the standards of the Engineering staff, both informally and via the appraisal system. Provide for the on-going personal development of all direct reports

Develop and apply relevant KPI's so that individual performance and the quality of engineering can be monitored and measured.

Ensure compliance with current Health and Safety legislation and all relevant legal and Company policies and procedures.

Requirements:
Education
Degree standard in Mechanical Engineering.

Further higher education in an Engineering topic is highly desirable, with professional Engineering institute membership. (IMECHE or equiv. country qualification preferred)

Experience

Leadership of a large engineering function, ideally within a matrix structure in an aerospace/defence environment with a manufacturing bias.

Broad knowledge and experience of business and new product development in a commercial / technical environment at senior level.

Extensive interaction with corporate customers supporting them to define and shape their requirements.

Experienced project manager of large, complex projects.

Evidence of valid driving licence and a willingness / ability to travel overseas when required.
