Role: Finance Manager - Part Time - Housing

Based: Brixton South West London, SW9

Salary: £18.00 - 23.00 per hour PAYE

Hours: Tues - Thurs, 9am - 5pm


To provide and deliver efficient and effective financial services to the Board, including the preparation of budgets and relevant management accounts.

To produce accurate, relevant and timely management reporting to the board on a regular basis.

To work as part of a team responsible for the delivery of excellent customer services, focusing on delivering high quality services which are important to the customers of the organisation

Responsible for:
  • The development and regular updating of the financial Business Plan in accordance with the requirements of the Board.
  • The preparation of the Risk Register, and regular presentation to FSC and Board after review, to be used as a basis for the management of the organisation.
  • The preparation of the annual budget, to be approved by the Board by the March meeting each year.
  • The preparation and presentation of monthly management accounts, internally for managers responsible for individual budgets, and to the Finance Sub Committee and Board as required
  • Ensuring that all necessary information is provided to the auditors to enable the annual audit to proceed to an agreed timetable and within budget.
  • Ensuring that all necessary information is provided to the council for the preparation of annual service charge accounts for leaseholders and freeholders in accordance with the requirements of the Management Agreement and advising on service charges as required.
  • Management of the cash of the organisation
  • The effective operation and use of the Sage accounting ledgers to provide the record of the financial position of the organisation in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements including those of HMRC.
  • Liaison with the local Council on financial matters, and reporting to the council as required under the Management Agreement.
  • Responsible for the work and management of the Finance Officer
  • Responsible for providing financial support and advice, as required, to the management team

Person specifications
  • Accountancy qualification or demonstrable experience
  • Housing experience including the use of data from housing management and maintenance systems (desirable)
  • Reporting on financial matters to voluntary boards and/or other housing professionals
  • Appropriate experience of financial risk assessment and management
  • Development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures for organisations with voluntary boards
  • The use and implementation of Sage accounting software
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters to lay people
  • Able to build and develop relationships in a variety of situations
  • Analytical and methodical
  • Forward Thinking
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Good problem solving skills
