The Environmental Monitoring Technician Role:

We are currently recruiting for Environmental Monitoring Technicians to join the South West Environmental Monitoring team, one to be based in the Exeter area and the second based in the Okehampton area.

Employed on a full-time basis working a 45-hour week with the occasional requirement for weekend and bank holiday work, the postholder will report to the Environmental Monitoring Project Manager. The primary purpose of this post is to attend and investigate water pollution incidents, undertake field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis. Key tasks and accountabilities associated with the role are as follows:

Attending and investigating water pollution incidents throughout the Cornwall and Devon area
Undertaking field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling
Technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents, time limited in accordance with client requirements
Provision of accurate and timely information to line management
Supporting team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels
Any other duties for which the post holder is qualified and able to carry out
Environmental Monitoring Technician Requirements:

Educated to degree level in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline and demonstrate an understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters
Experience in scientific fieldwork, GIS, laboratory analysis and Environmental Compliance (Essential)
Experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate identification skills to Family level (Preferred)
Strong analytical and numerical skills (Essential)
Possess a Full, clean, UK Driving Licence
Competent with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Able to work independently and as part of a team, following precise protocols
Therefore an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers (Essential)
Easy access to motorway networks (Essential)
Motivated, friendly and confident when interacting with clients
Consistently deliver excellent service whilst representing the Company in a positive manner
