Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Head of HV Engineering on behalf of one of our clients. The purpose of this role is to lead a growing team of engineers and be responsible for defining and driving the strategy for solar projects, HV & LV network design, including connections and general substation arrangements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To undertake and lead a team to produce the design of:
  • Underground HV & LV cable systems.
  • A selection of switchgear and apparatus.
  • Protection Systems & Earthing Systems.
  • Produce drawings, reports and design submissions.
  • Review Design Engineer designs and be accountable to sign these off.
  • Oversee and review technical submissions.
  • Produce Design Risk Assessments.
  • Undertake the design of HV & LV solar electrical systems.
  • Providing leadership and line management for a multi-disciplined team including HV, LV and SCADA Electrical competence for the design, implementation and test activities.
  • Ensure that efficient processes are in place for the team to deliver the Engineering Activities.
  • Produce and provide accurate reporting against programmes.
  • Creates the right ways of working and environment to enable the Engineering function to proactively generate new ideas, deliver defined business objectives and continuously improve.
  • Develop team strategies and apply good practice in supporting the development process by providing expertise and insight to the development of Solar products and specifications.
  • Developing and coaching a team of Engineers to achieve KPIs.
  • Develop and manage resource plans for team, lead recruitment and establish team knowledge and skill requirements.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with the Construction, Health & Safety Plan, Environmental Plan and Quality Plan.
  • Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and to implement change and improvements.
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of employees, customers and visitors.
  • Provide leadership, coordination and coaching to the team, ensuring they are trained enabling them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and succeed in their roles.
  • Ability to demonstrate a hands-on approach to leading your business unit and have the capability/experience/proven competence as a senior professional to lead a team of people.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Senior Authorised person / Control Engineer experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in HV & LV substation design and commissioning.
  • Educated to Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Standards applying to Cables, Switchgear and Transformers.
  • Working knowledge and/or experience in primary and secondary voltage injecting testing.
  • Experience of working in the HV Sector with a background in the design of new connections, general HV infrastructure or control protection.
  • Knowledge of H&S Regulations.
  • Significant knowledge and understanding of the ENA Safety Rules are critical to this role.
  • A strong working knowledge of mechanical and material engineering principles and their relevance in electrical equipment failures.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to understand data analysis, report writing and presentation of findings and recommendations.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Experience heading up a team of engineers with the ability to inspire the team around you.
  • Excellent relationship skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders/customers and suppliers.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willing to travel on occasion.
  • Good IT Skills.
