JOB TITLE: Transport Manager

LOCATION: Spalding

REPORTS TO: General Manager

We operate in a number of sectors, which include fresh produce, chilled, ambient and frozen food, beverages, ingredients, horticulture and dry freight.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

To ensure the effective operation of the Transport function, drive continuous improvements and further develop integrated transport solutions to deliver a premium and cost effective service.

* Proactively seek optimisation without affecting service

* Integration and control of new cross dock clients where applicable

* Increased vehicle fleet to include offsite parking

* Responsible for the interface between every area of the operation to ensure efficiency and effectiveness

* Direct, motivate and develop team members to equip them with the skills to lead and manage their teams

* Ensure compliance with all statutory legislation in regard to Health & Safety and statutory Transport rules and regulations

* Managing a group of approved 3rd party hauliers on national and international journeys

* Responsible for communication cascades throughout the transport operation

* Propose, agree and implement service standard agreements for products with customers in conjunction with other areas of the businessConsider proposals and implementation of improvements methods in regard to staff, operational changes to transport associated activities which will improve efficiency and/or levels of performance

* Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff and products

* Support the Company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint, for example recycling initiatives

* Client Interface with all major customers including implementation meetings, customer reviews and other ad hoc meetings as required

* Work to tight deadlines on new initiatives

* Provide effective leadership and direction to the Transport Department

* Ensure the Companies Operator Licences are maintained efficiently and accurately at all times. Contingency planning to avoid Company exposure to the Operator LicencesTo drive through continuous improvement initiatives

* Proactive management of new legislation

* Effective Manage the Transport Department through KPI measures

* Effective day-to-day decision making for administration teams

* Retailer Interface in regard to Key supplier management for quality and cost

* Significant UK and continental supplier collection responsibilities

* Achieve efficiency through managing, planning and controlling staff on a daily basis, and an ongoing basis through objective.

SCOPE

* Managing and maintaining agreed service levels. Pro-actively seek business improvement in terms of performance, increased efficiency and service levels on an ongoing basis

* Sickness Levels
Finance: Responsible for agreeing and managing budget performance and profitability of the Transport operation by:

* Staffing Costs including agency costs

* Manage department taking strict control of, and ensuring compliance within, set budgets.

* Controlling maintenance cost
