PRU Teaching Assistant needed on full time basis in Coventry

Your new company

Hays Education are working with an Ofsted Rated 'Good' Pupil Referral Unit in Coventry , who are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join the team in September to support a group of KS4 pupils. This wonderful independent school provides full-time alternative Secondary education for 45 young people aged between 13 and 17, who present with additional to complex needs in Coventry.

Education is delivered through individualised packages that meet very specific needs for the learners who may have complex needs including SEMH and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The school provides education as well as mentoring, counselling, family support, accredited and work-related learning, to some of the most vulnerable young people in the area and are looking for a strong willed and kind hearted individual to join the team in making more success stories.

Offering a young person-centred, holistic approach to education and moving away from mainstream methods with which learners have had difficulties in the past. The provision of an alternative educational experience is proven successful when the behaviour of learners is transformed, allowing them to access the curriculum both socially and academically.

The position will vary from assisting in the classroom to providing 1:1 behaviour intervention sessions with pupils who struggle with Mental Health and Special Educational Needs. Often these pupils exhibit their emotions through anger, so a candidate with previous experience supporting similar needs will be ideal. Previous experience in a PRU is desired but not essential, the schools is more than happy to meet with any candidates who fit the basic criteria and are passionate enough to make a positive impact on the lives of the pupils in the school.
