About the role

As the Infrastructure Lead, you will actively lead improvements to the public and private cloud infrastructure that underpins our delivery of services to staff across NHS Digital and our NHS Digital service users.

This Cloud focused role will be responsible for a team of engineers deploying and maintaining key systems across our Platforms & Infrastructure. The primary focus will be NHS UK and NHS 111 Online services, whilst providing support for the wider Platforms area.

A thorough understanding of VMware, AWS, Azure, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and Secure by Design concepts is required, with experience implementing these technologies in an enterprise environment. Experience with networking, data centre hardware, and additional Microsoft technologies is also desirable. The preferred candidate will have a proven technical background in an ITIL environment, and experience motivating and leading a team to successfully deliver multiple high-profile projects.

About you

We want you to be set for success, these are the key skills and experiences you will have:
  • Experience in a similar role
  • A strong understanding of Azure Cloud services in an enterprise environment, including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services
  • Proven technical background in an ITIL environment
  • Knowledge of DevOps practises, continuous deployment, and integration and tooling
  • Knowledge of VMware, datacentre private cloud technologies, and cloud migration methods
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows Server administration and the capabilities of each technology
  • Experience managing and motivating a team
