"Ocado Technology, powering the future of retail through sustained disruptive technology innovation..."At Ocado Technology we have teams who are responsible for building the software systems powering our next generation fulfilment centres, which are core to the Ocado Smart Platform.Our software employs complex algorithms and business logic to schedule and coordinate the work of hundreds of people fulfilling customer orders. This includes receiving stock from suppliers, decanting and storing inventory, dealing with exceptions and picking and dispatching orders.Efficiency and accuracy are at the centre of everything we do. Building the new technology platform to enable each of our sites, which run around the clock, to reach their 250,000 orders per week.We are looking for a Software Development Manager with a software engineering background who is experienced in agile software development and is passionate about people development.We would like you to take responsibility for:As a Software Development Manager of Fulfilment Architecture's Support Tooling & Analysis area, you are expected to shape the teams' structure and goals in alignment to the department goals and help your team members develop and contribute towards the overall success. This role includes the following responsibilities:Take line management responsibility for the Team Leads in your area. Typically we have 3-4 teams in an area;Work with product managers, project managers, UX and senior leaders to ensure that your teams' work is appreciated and that any requirements on them are quickly and accurately defined;Ensure that teams are working towards agreed goals and timelines;Mentor / coach Team Leads;Ensure that your teams grow as needed and that the development needs of the people in them are met;Liaise with internal and external stakeholders; Advocate agile work practices and continuous improvement;Collaborate with other teams to build an effective organization considering technology, delivery, and product/service;Be passionate about growing great people and organisations, and not be afraid to challenge the status quo and restlessly improve.We would like you to demonstrate the following:Degree in Computer Science/Maths/Physics or Engineering;Extensive experience in successfully leading software development teams;Extensive experience in coaching and developing individuals;Strong software engineering background - able to provide technical guidance and always take a pragmatic approach;Keen interest and proven experience in agile practices, team setup and processes;Experience in fostering collaboration within and between teams;Enjoy creating real business value, by combining user research, data analysis, data engineering and software development to create the right products for warehouse operations;Good writing and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical peers.
