We know that our people are our greatest asset, and we are delighted to be growing our team further as we have a requirement for an Apprentice Engineering Operative.

You will train on and off-the-job, in order to carry out a wide range of engineering operations, with a focus on maintaining our machinery and equipment. You will handle various hand and machine tools and maintain machines and equipment.

On successfully acquiring the level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Engineering Operations and level 2 Maths/English (if required) we anticipate the post will transfer to a full time permanent role with appropriate uplift in salary.

During your apprenticeship you will specialise in working within a maintenance role (this role can cover either mechanical, electrical, electronic or fluid power work or a combination of them).

  • Ensure machines and equipment are maintained and serviceable
  • Deal with breakdowns
  • Restore components and systems to serviceable condition by repair and replacement
  • Assemble and repair machine and press tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and other tool
  • Fabrication/installation of a wide variety of sheet fabrications and equipment
  • Prepare materials and equipment for engineering processes
  • Provide technical support
  • Obtain job instructions, engineering drawings and specifications and how to interpret them
  • Complete appropriate documentation accurately, efficiently and legibly using the correct terminology
  • Select and use appropriate tools, equipment and materials to carry out the engineering operation

You will develop knowledge of:
  • Maintenance planning
  • Diagnostic and fault finding techniques
  • Specific safe working practices, maintenance procedures and environmental regulations that need to be observed

You will develop skills to:
  • Carryout fault location on appropriate equipment using suitable maintenance diagnostic techniques
  • Carryout maintenance activities in line with work instructions
  • Carry out tests on the maintained equipment in accordance with test schedule/defined test procedures
  • Follow appropriate completion activities and restore equipment to service by replacing or repairing components

Key Skills:
  • A positive, can do attitude which you may evidence from previous work, or voluntary experience
  • A desire to learn and develop which you will evidence from work experience and/or previous study
  • Enthusiasm for the subject and desire to attain qualification in procurement and supply
  • Ability to stick at the training and apply learning to the job
  • Confidently display supplier/customer relationship management skills with a range of stakeholders, keeping key stakeholders and customers appropriately informed
