About the role:

We are looking for an Assistant Royalty Accountant to join our Group Accounts team based at our Distribution site in Colchester, Essex. This role is offered on a 15-month fixed term basis to cover a period of maternity leave.

The accounting team within the Royalty Department is responsible for all payments, reconciliations and financial reporting dealing with a wide range of internal teams, authors and agents.


- Regular processing of payment runs on both Random House and Penguin Books royalty ledger.
- Dealing with queries from other departments and external agents / authors.
- Working within a team to ensure VAT Self-billing programme is up to date and accurate.
- Making adjustments to opening balances / royalty ledger / payment ledger.
- Checking accuracy of computations input by others.
- Ownership of several balance sheet accounts.
- Lead role in external third-party audits.
- Dealing with period end checking / statement queries.
- Manual Statement production.
- Lead role in month end accrual computation.
- Providing cover for Royalty Accounts Team Leader.
- Analysing divisional royalty provisions.
- Reconciliation of sub-rights P&L account.
- Training Royalty Accounts Assistants to provide cover on certain tasks.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will have impeccable attention to detail and will be able to work confidently within a team and under your own initiative. You'll have a structured and disciplined approach to managing and organising your own workload and will possess strong IT and systems skills.

You may have experience of the following: Accounts Assistant, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting Assistant, Accounts Officer, Finance, Invoicing, Reconciliation, etc.
