Becoming a Finance Manager - Project Accounting with Capita Plc

Capita is the UK's largest business process outsourcing company with 75 000 staff across UK, Europe, India and South Africa.

The Finance Function at Capita has 1,100 FTE (Full Time Equivalents) globally spread across the UK, Europe, South Africa, Poland and India. The Function is undergoing a multi-year transformation of its current operating model as well as technology (deployment of SAP S4 Hana, BPC and Ariba within Finance and Procurement). As part of this transformation, a new capability and team for Contract and Project Accounting is required. This team will be formed by bringing together existing capability in various parts of the organisation as well as fresh hires. It will sit under a global organisational construct called Finance Operations which will operate all Centres of Excellence and Shared Services for Finance.

About the role

The Finance Manager Project Accounting will support Project set-up and Maintenance activities, supporting Project Accountants in key decisions around technical accounting and best practice for Project processes. The role will be working with relevant Divisional Finance teams on their projects, programmes and project portfolios, Group Finance and other teams within Finance Operations to deliver support to the business in setting up of projects in S4 Hana, managing quality of data entry into Project Systems (PS)on SAP, performing accounting and reporting on projects and providing guidance on revenue recognition

What you will do:

Supporting Project Accountants in ensuring that SD contracts and Project structures map to both Contractual deliverables, technical accounting requirements and Project Management deliverables.
Managing classification and providing guidance on Revenue Recognition to Project Accountants and Project Managers
Helping Project Accountants set up relevant Project structures and identification of areas of concern or opportunities.
Ensuring that Project Structures drive the correct accounting treatment of Capex and Contact Fulfilment Assets.
Providing assurance that effective and appropriate financial control and robust governance exists on projects within Divisions
Supporting Project Accounts to partner with associated programme/ business / commercial teams, providing finance leadership, governance, advice and information to support programme and BU directors
Providing finance leadership insight and information as required via Project Accountants
Coaching project accountants and/or analyst in embedding processes and ways of working across Divisions
Supporting Programme/ BU Directors and commercial teams in their creation of forecasts and annual plans for the contract in BPC. Reviewing content and ensure completeness and accuracy of outputs
Ensuring the appropriate accounting treatments for projects and portfolios in accordance with relevant accounting standards e.g. revenue recognition
Supporting Project accountants in reviewing and managing Balance Sheet to include the proactive management of Working Capital and correct treatments of Capital expenditure and Project Fulfilment assets
Monthly review of Project & Portfolios alignment to project accounting standards and processes and supporting project accountants with remediation and misalignment
Support business to ensure correct SAP timesheet set-up and compliance with standard reporting of Non Chargeable activity and UtilisationYour skills will include:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a relevant field

Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)

Expert Project Systems and CPM User
Expert Sales Contract & Line item user
Full understanding of Project key attributes and structures and technical implications
Very strong technical accounting Skills Revenue Recognition and Capex
Very strong commercial skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preparation of high-quality financial analysis and reports for key internal stakeholders;
Working and engaging with non-finance people and managing differing interests;Desirable

Experience of working for/ with professional services based organisations

Previous Business Partnering Experience

SAP S/4HANA, BPC experience

Experience of building new project/contract accounting discipline into Operations
