The Company:

Our client is a well-known North East sports club with a stadium that host's conferences, match day events and concerts.

The club is home to a well-known sports team and the children's academy to develop junior athletes.

Most importantly within the next three years, the club has exceptional and ambitious plans to develop their site into an award-winning, internationally recognised hub for sports. This project will transform the North East's sporting landscape working in conjunction with the Tees Valley Combined Authority and local councils.

This opportunity is giving the candidate a position in the senior team that will be working on something that is going to benefit the region and as a result, is a highly unique and very sought-after opportunity.

Naturally, this role will lend itself very nicely to someone with a keen interest in sport. It requires an individual that would be willing to go above and beyond what is in the job description in their role and roll up their selves to help out with the big events.

You will be joining a very motivated team with a contagious passion for what they do both in the running of the club and the future development plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To work alongside the Managing Director and the commercial team to establish robust short, medium, and long term financial planning and growth strategies.
  • Management of the accounts team to ensure delivery of all finance functions including statutory accounting, budgeting, cash forecasting, credit control, and treasury management.
  • To contribute to the development of company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers.
  • Ensuring that company financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth.
  • Develop and lead the budgeting processes so that they are well planned, timely and critically reviewed.
  • Driving timely and accurate production of regular management accounts, providing relevant variance analysis, commentary and support to management staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensuring that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met.
  • Supporting good management of key stakeholders including customers, suppliers, sponsors, banks, etc.
  • Modeling and driving new business functions and projects as required.
  • To support preparation and presentation of annual accounts and financial information to members, investors and other stakeholders.
  • Overseeing the payroll function and ensuring compliance and year-end reporting deadlines.
  • Developing and driving systems that improve productivity and profitability.
  • Monitoring changes in relevant legislation and the regulatory environment and taking appropriate action.
  • Liaising with external regulators and advisers, such as lawyers and auditors where relevant.
  • Overseeing and managing any corporate finance, shareholder or investor requirements.
  • Advising (or sourcing advice) of the legal, governance, accounting and tax implications of policies and proposals.
  • Overseeing Human Resources.
  • Overseeing company insurance and property affairs.
  • Other duties that may be deemed appropriate to this role.

Candidate Specification Required
  • An enthusiastic, committed and self-driven individual.
  • Professional accountancy qualification with at least 5 years posts qualification experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and manage lasting relationships.
  • Excellent ability to communicate at all levels and to disseminate information for non-financial managers.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation and time management skills.
  • Excellent business and commercial acumen.
  • Strong analytical and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • An ability to manage multiple stakeholders and projects simultaneously.

Desirable
  • A proven track record in an SME environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of Sage Line 50.
  • Valid driving license and access to a suitable vehicle
  • Passion for sport would be nice to have.
