We have a great opportunity for a payroll officer with Thames Valley Police, specifically located in Kidlington - OX5 1NZ

The role is being offer on a temp to perm basis and is full time working 9 - 5 so the ideal candidate will be looking for a longer term role.

The initial temp salary will be £13.87 PAYE rising to £15.05 after 12 weeks in line with agency working regulations.

The purpose of this role is to support the Payroll Manager in the day to day management of the section and workflow, ensuring that all deadlines are met and that the section continues to function smoothly. Manage all payroll processes, payments and all statutory and force policies are adhered to and ensuring there is an effective and efficient delivery.

Some key daily duties will consist of
  • Day to day management of the payroll software
  • Maintain the integrity and quality of the Payroll data by reconciliation processes, data cleansing and statistical data, including final spot audits to identify any training needs.
  • Responsible for extracting any specially requested management reports from payroll via report writer tool.
  • Provide Payroll data to both internal and external bodies in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation and Freedom of Information guideline, including police criminal compensation claims
  • Responsible for Year End Processes including the planning management of the processes to the production of the P11d's & P60's, for notification to relevant employees and HMRC. Responsible for disposal of documentation for previous financial years, in line with government guidelines.
  • Deal with any Income Tax and NI issues.
  • Reconcile suspense accounts, identify causes and then arrange journal entries.
  • Input or authorise for payment any changes on the Finance and Senior Management group payroll and sanction payment for all salary recalculations

You'll be working with a team responsible for Payment of approximately 8000 employees with an annual budget of £179 million.

Ideal candidates will display the below skills
  • Extensive payroll experience, particularly in a supervisory role.
  • Thorough knowledge of statutory requirements in respect of Income Tax and National Insurance.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and cope in a pressured environment.
  • Working knowledge of windows based packages including Word, Excel & Access.
  • Extensive post IPPM Advanced Practitioner Certificate in Payroll with experience of working in the payroll environment.
