OverviewThe
Freshfields Global Centre provides both business and legal services to the
firm. Our services are delivered in a way which supports the global nature of
our firm and our clients, enables our fee earners to deliver exceptional
service to our clients and to do that in a way which is efficient and
effective. Our Centre in Manchester is the first site to be established in
the emerging Freshfields Global operating model. Our aspiration is to
establish further sites in the US and Asia-Pacific in the coming years.Function

Responsible Business team is responsible for developing and delivering our
strategy in respect of the external-facing aspects of responsible business,
developing and delivering our environmental strategy and working closely with
our HR teams to ensure a responsible working environment for our people.The team is made up of
12 people in the UK split between London and Manchester. The community
investment manager will work across both offices in the UK and will also work
with our CI teams in Asia, US and Continental Europe on initiatives and sharing
best practice. Qualifications Role

promoting social mobility, facilitating routes into to work, and widening
access to the legal profession.The Community
Investment manager is responsible for developing and driving the access to
opportunity strategy for the benefit of our target groups (including
underprivileged and under-represented, and those who face significant barriers
to employment). S/he will also identify
and develop non-legal employee engagement opportunities around the access to
justice limb of our strategy and collaborate with the wider Responsible
Business team to connect the access to opportunity and access to justice
workstreams.The Community
Investment manager will also be responsible for all aspects of employee volunteering in the UK with the
exception of legal volunteering (pro bono) and the provision of non-legal
professional advice. S/he will engage
with lawyers and business services colleagues in London and Manchester to use
their professional and life skills and time, in order to make a real difference
to the communities in which we work.
S/he will also work closely with our regional teams to shape regional
programmes and provide advice and guidance on strategy.Key
responsibilities and deliverablesBuild
impactful community programmesResponsible
for developing an impactful UK community investment programme, and maintaining
a portfolio of external relationships to deliver on the 'access to opportunity'
strategy. Maintain
ongoing relationships with high profile community partners, and support the
team in delivering their community investment programmes.Work
closely with and provide a strategic steer to our Partner for Social Mobility,
to shape the future strategy of our flagship social mobility programme,
Freshfields Stephen Lawrence Scholarship Scheme, and manage the members of your
team who have responsibility for delivering elements of the programme.
Identify opportunities for thought leadership and best practice sharing around
Freshfields' community investment commitments and successes.Work
closely with regional RB teams to provide strategic guidance and share best
practice to enable them to develop impactful regional community programmes
(promoting both access to opportunity and access to justice) Engage
volunteers and strengthen our responsible business cultureDevelop
an employee engagement strategy to motivate and engage volunteers in London and
Manchester and deliver on our stated principle that 'responsible business is
everyone's business'. Provide
guidance to Partners interested in developing their community investment /
volunteering interestsWork
with HR to embed non-legal volunteering in appraisal and career development,
build buy-in from managers and partners.Work
with other members of the social mobility committee (diversity, talent,
graduate recruitment) to promote social mobility within the firm globally and
create an inclusive working environmentBuilding relationships and profile externally Identify
and build strong relationships with selected not-for-profits /charities Engage
with universities and higher/further education institutionsInvolve
clients and build strong client relationships around community investment
opportunities (e.g. joint projects or volunteering opportunities)Represent
