Location Overview

The Freshfields Global Europe Centre provides both business and legal services to the firm. Our services are delivered in a way which supports the global nature of our firm and our clients, enables our fee earners to deliver exceptional service to our clients and to do that in a way which is efficient and effective. Our Europe Centre is the first site to be established in the emerging Freshfields Global operating model. Our aspiration is to establish further sites in the US and Asia-Pacific in the coming years.

Function Overview

The IT Department is responsible for providing technology and support to enable fee earners and business services employees to operate efficiently both internally and with their clients. The IT department is comprised of two functions, Customer Services and Technology Services. These two functions work closely together with the shared goal of delivering strategic business value through the application of technology. IT operates as a global team with regional presence in most of our offices. Our centralised IT infrastructure is maintained and managed by Technology Services and Customer Services provides all business facing support and services. Qualifications Role Purpose

Freshfields has transformed the delivery practice of its IT function with the creation of multiple Scrum teams. Underpinning the Scrum teams has been the development of the Continuous Delivery Platform, which is to be termed as the Production Engineering platform. This platform is planned to scale over the next 6 to 12 months and with that will require further development and on going maintenance to support the IT Functions exponential change curve ambition. This role will be pivotal to ensuring that the coding practices are standardised, in developing the necessary scripts to support the environment and creating the proactive monitoring to support a minimal outage state.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
To develop, maintain and improve the Production Engineering Platform;Create the standards that are required to ensure consistent use of the platform, ensure that the scripts used are developed following best practice;Work with the development teams to support their usage of the Platform;Develop, implement and maintain the monitoring to ensure the platform is available 24/7;Support the on-going usage of the platform to ensure the platform is available and performing optimally for the teams interacting with it;Drive improvements to quality and flow of product development through the platform;Ensure that new project requirements are understood and integrated into the platform using standards;Understand the fundamentals of iterative and incremental development;Uses appropriate methods and tools in the development, maintenance, control and distribution of quality and environmental standards. Makes technical changes to quality and environmental standards according to documented procedures;Ensure that environments are integrated into the Platform using established templates and tools, assisting in designs to ensure data management is consistent;Work closely with the team on developing Infrastructure as code;Work closely with the rest of the team to ensure that Configuration Management practices are followed;Ensure the Toolchain is kept up to date and that the upgrades are seamless and of a high quality;Undertakes complete design of requisite application integrations using established templates and tools. Assists as part of a team on design of data management and integration components of larger systems. Produces detailed designs including for example: physical data flows, file layouts, common routines;Applies data analysis and data modelling techniques to establish, modify or maintain a data structure and its associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions);Contributes, under instruction, to the production and distribution of documentation items, to testing the content and layout of specific deliverables, and to the configuration of documentation items and files;Designs, codes, tests, corrects, and documents simple programs, and assists in the implementation of software which forms part of a properly engineered information or communications system.
Key Requirements
Considerable experience of RedHat/Linux administration with BASH scripting Experience of Solid Release Management using Puppet or similar technologiesExperience with server side and distributed software managementPrevious experience working in an Agile and DevOps process environmentExperience working in a 3rd line support function of a large critical systemStrong experience of using toolchains, supporting, and developing with the following applications: Jira, Bamboo, Bitbucket, Confluence,Sonar, Eggplant;Experience in designing and running test cycles/unit tests/test scripts for web applications using any test framework;Experience in continuous integration / improvement using source control, automated build/test and code coverage analysis tools;Understanding of waterfall and agile methodologies and associated ways of working;
Essential Technical Skills
Linux or Windows ScriptingExperience deploying high-performance server-side/compute grid distributed risk generation software Tool chain in use on the Platform Atlassian Toolset JIRA \ Bitbucket \ Bamboo \ Confluence, SonarQube, OWASP and Nessus;Puppet \ Chef \ Ansible or VSTSProgramming in Ruby / Powershell / Unix / BASH scripting
